Visited the wonderful Calke Abbey, Derbyshire, today.

Built in the early 1700′s and mostly closed off and abandoned by the family after the second world war, except a few rooms. It has been preserved by the National Trust in the exact state it was in when they took it over in the 1980′s, rather than restoring it, which makes it all the more fascinating.

The owners were by and large eccentric recluses who liked collecting and never threw anything away, so it is brim full of amazing treasures.
