love Ed, love the styling on the guy, it’s all about the masks, facades, finding ways to reveal and conceal features based on how vulnerable he’s willing to be in that moment in his character arc, the first time you “see” him he’s been doing this for so long nobody even remembers what his face looks like, etc. very cool. but also so funny to make a character with this insane self image problem who’s also one of the most mesmerizingly attractive men i’ve ever seen. he’s like an anime boy to me

also the way that ed and his crew are styled in comparison to stede & co where they’re all wearing like completely anachronistic goth leatherman getups for no reason bc it’s telling you, these guys are no longer of (what passes for) the time and place of the story and its real people, they’re myths, they’re styling themselves after blackbeard the concept instead of ed the guy. initially they’re immaterial threats as opposed to supporting players, they’re embodying a level of cartoon badassery that wasn’t real in history and honestly isn’t even real in fiction. and they are doing this by wearing hot topic belts in 1717

I haven’t seen anyone else talk about these yet so forgive me if this is a repeat. But I found some of the ofmd costumes posted on Instagram and they’re just so gorgeous I needed to yell about them!

This is the Instagram!

Just look at this pattern matching! This is the jacket from the party episode and I am absolutely obsessed. There’s more information about it in the post!

And some detail shots of Blackbeard’s coat from the same episode! This is like catnip to my brain.

Please go and give it tons of attention because as I’m making this post they only have a few hundred likes and I just need them to be seen. They also have a post on the all white coat here and it’s just so beautiful!!

I JUST LOVE COSTUMES SO MUCH THANK YOU FOR INDULGING ME

I loved everything about the styles in this movie. Amy Heckerling was a genius, top to bottom.

This is a short film I produced and filmed by Dominic Brouard, looking at the design of the upcoming National Theatre: 50 years on stage event.

national-theatre:

Mark Thompson talks about his work as designer for the National Theatre’s once-in-a-lifetime performance ‘50 years on stage’ that will be broadcast live from the Olivier stage on BBC Two on Saturday 2 November at 9pm.

This once-in-a-lifetime performance features many of the most celebrated actors who have performed on our stages over the past five decades and is directed by Nicholas Hytner.
