Various works by British artist, designer and illustrator Eric Ravilious.
Last night I went to Eye Magazines Type Tuesday event about Ravilious (1903-1942) at St.Brides, it was really interesting to learn more about an artist I have always admired and been interested in. The talk was given by James Russell who is the curator of the upcoming Ravilious exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery (from 1 April -31 August), which I’m looking forward to attending. It will definitely be worth going to if you get the chance, I’ve not seen much of his work in person so It will be great to get a feel for the real things, especially since colour and texture are such key aspects of his work.
If you are interested in Ravilious I also highly recommend this 45 minute BBC radio documentary about his life: ‘Eric Ravilious: Chalk and Ice’. It’s a really good piece of radio and a very interesting story.

Event
Earlier this week I had a chance to visit Leiden, Netherlands, where along with Science Now, we’ve prepared a new exhibition for the Leiden Science Center (Oude Sterrewacht).
“Above and Beyond” celebrates the last 100 years of space exploration and creatively reaches out into the imaginary future. I’ve made several illustrations for the “Visions of the Future” section of the exhibition and I’ll share some more detailed preview soon.

Resistance. It’s one of the motifs that unifies the artwork from our contemporary collection on display in “The Slipstream: Reflection, Resilience, and Resistance in the Art of Our Time.” This includes the photography of John Edmonds, Elle Pérez, and Zanele Muholi.
Uniquely, these photographs celebrate the self-possessed presence and power of visibility. A do-rag, a chest binder, and a stoic portrait communicate activism in culture, identity and self-expression.
