LIVE

My favorite thing about reading fanfiction is when the author uses a turn of phrase/word that Is Most Definitely Not Of My Knowing, and I have a sudden interest in where they’re from/who they adopted the phrase from. I just think it’s so fun to read something by the author and just go “Ooooh!!!! Ooooh!!!! Do tell me about the flies being caught with honey!!!!!”

Friend: “They look so cute together!”

me:

I wanted to meet Mr. Lockhart so much as he’ll be signing his books in Flourish and Blotts after few days but I don’t think I’ll be able to come back then. Some people in the bookshop told me about all the great heroic stuff he’s done. Maybe I’ll get to meet him at Hogwarts if he’s this famous.

So I’ve got my 2 new characters ready, personality and all. Character design is almost done except… I need a name. The first one already has a god tier as well. I’ll greatly thank anyone who can give me a name for either and a god tier for Borderlands 2. I’ll include personalities in the next post. Thank you for those reading this and who may help me to pick a name for these characters.

BL: What is this place? … Is this the new Vault?

You press your hand against the entrance, as the stone begins to glow. It seemed to be reading the marks on your arm. The gargantuan boulder began to split at seams that were not previously there and opened up like a door. You walked inside to find a long corridor carved from stone. Clearly man-made, but evidently over millions of years old. As you enter, the door reseals behind you, and you are shrouded in complete darkness. This wasn’t like any of the other vault’s you’ve found. Continue to walk through the corridor, passing through what seemed like dozens of other hallways branching off from the main hall. The corridor finally opened up, and you found yourself in what looked like a throne room. Gold was piled high, and in the center, an extravagant throne covered in large eridium shards of all shapes. You noticed, though, that one was missing just above the head of the throne. You took the slab of eridium out of your pocket and balanced it in your hand. You had always had this, ever since you were a child. You had always assumed that maybe your mother left it with you before she left, or died, or whatever happened to her. You slowly approach the massive throne and climb onto the seat. You reach up and cautiously push the slab into the cavity. The hall began to quake as you jumped off of the throne, rolling into a pile of gold coins, a diamond shard cutting your arm. The throne itself split itself at an invisible seam and pulled apart, revealing a mirror. It was a strange mirror- not like one you’ve ever seen before. You pressed your hand against it, and it rippled, like water. You couldn’t see anything through it but when you pressed your hand against it, you saw two hands on the other side, both touching yours. You removed your hand from the mirror and read the inscription on the top. It read:

“Two is better that one, and one is weaker than two.
Enter in, and they will help you, for who knows you better than you?
But be wary, traveler, and don’t let your intentions go black,
For once you go in, you can never go back. “

You thought over the inscription for some while. Who know’s what’s behind that mirror. You made it this far. Were you really going to turn back now? You stood up slowly, and reluctantly pressed your hand to the clouded mirror. You closed your eyes, whispered “I’m sorry”, and pushed your way through the mirror.

And just like that, you were gone.

Hey my loves it’s been a while. Most of you prob know that I write fan fiction for the sterek fandom (Your First,White Ferrari). I have sooooooo many more ideas for fics (including a sequel to Your First) but my time is very limited and I’m having a hard time structuring plots. If anyone is interested in being a co writer or just can be someone I bounce ideas off of please let me know! If not share this with your followers por favor :)

Hey, i know y'all love the fact that Vico Ortiz or David Jenkins or Con O’ Neil are so vocally supportive of fanworks. I do too.

But.

Quelch the parasocial attitude now that it’s early. Don’t treat these people like your best friends or ask their opinions on fandom things. It’s very nice that they like fanwork but for fuck’s sake, try to leave them alone. Don’t look for their approval. Have a chuckle and move on.

I saw countless times what happens to approachable crew when they meet with overentusiastic fanbases on twitter and it. never. ends. well.

I know it sounds overparanoid but I can spot the fandom growing incredibly fast (100 fics per day AT LEAST) and - with that - the pool of vocal drama increases. And, with that, the attitude towards crew changes.

It’s manageable now but it will become A Thing and the best we can do is:

1) make your corners to interact in/share ur thoughts. small friend groups good and foster creativity!

2) block and move on if you see shit you dont wanna see. it’s fine. don’t vague about it either, cmon.

3) dont dig into what the actors say and do, they’re people. Don’t elevate them as unproblematic icons, this will make the switch to “they suck” more brutal. Leave the actors alone and limit what you tell them. Check yourself for the parasocial attitude and calm it.

4) there will be a point between seasons people WILL get bored and try to pick fights. ignore them. Be vocal about fandom events! Make AU weeks, make zines, make big bangs! Try to channel that energy into creativity.

5) this is fandom. have fun. if you’re not having fun, log off and take care of yourself, yes?

I saw this video by Jasmine Zade on YT that talks about older people in fandom life and I couldn’t help but add my two cents in it. (I also posted my comment on YT but I think it’s more fitting here.)

I’ve been in the fandom life for over 15 years and as a now 29yo pushing 30 I’m starting to see straight up ageist comments about how “old” or “proper adults” shouldn’t be in fandom life, which is bonkers to me. Especially since I have found work in the industry that gave me so many fandoms to be a part of. All my obsession over tv shows has led me to pursue a career in the tv world and now I make a living working on shows that give the same young ones who leave ageist comments a place for their interests. Ironic.

If you’re young and think that “old people” shouldn’t be a part of fandoms, need I remind you that it’s us “old people” that are giving you youngins content to obsess over. Art, edits, spaces, culture. All the good fics you read and love so much? Guess what, ALL written by the “old people”. If you wanna push us out, you have to be willing to sacrifice the good stuff.

The video continues to talk about how we are faced with the decision of dropping our interests when we reach a certain point in our lives (i.e. starting a family). Listen, I too feared of letting go of the things I loved when I was a kid because there was this expectation of us entering the “real world” when we become grown-ups, but if guys can fanboy over sports and comics all they want without facing criticism, why should we have to sacrifice our hobbies? You may not realise this but you have an underlying bias when it comes to women in particular, because apparently when a mum does it she’s a bad mother, she should be focusing on feeding her baby because that’s her whole world now and she should never have time for herself ever.

It should go without saying, yet here we are, but adult women can enjoy things too. You can absolutely still love what you love at any age. The difference is you just start to enjoy it from an experienced perspective and that’s a GOOD thing. So don’t ever be afraid to continue loving what you love.

tl;dr don’t leave “you’re too old” in people’s inboxes you ungrateful lil’ brat

hey writers, is it a #relatablewritersthing where you’re reading a book / watching a show/movie and try to predict what might happen next but the plot twist you formulate in your mind is so good that you end up praying it doesn’t actually happen so that you can use it yourself..?

or is that just me?

me starting a new book series: from years of experience and a general underdstanding that interesting plots don’t have happy endings, I know that some or many characters are going to die throughout the series and that I’m just going to have to accept that, because I also know that if there were no deaths then the books would be highly unrealistic and I’d stop enjoying them

Nothing feels more free than the realization that canon, fanon, and headcanon are all 1000% fake and made up and therefore all equally true and equally false. None are better or worse than the other. They just either appeal to you or they don’t.

This post isn’t about the relative legitimacy or importance of canon versus fanon versus headcanon. This is just about the fact that all of them are fiction. Fiction is fake and made up. Fiction is true, in that it feels true, emotionally. Fiction is false, in that it doesn’t actually occur in the real world. It’s a fantasy.

If I ask someone, “Does the sun rise in the east?” there is a right answer and a wrong answer to that question. There is a true and a false.

If I ask someone, “Is this character gay?” there isn’t a right answer or a wrong answer. There is a canon answer, a fanon answer, and a headcanon answer. There isn’t an actual real, living, breathing human being being discussed. It’s a question about an idea, and the answer will depend on each person’s interpretation of that idea. Broadly accepted or not. Supported by the text or not. Explained by the original creator or not. Each person gets to decide for themselves.

This is even true in RPF fandoms to a certain degree. The living, breathing person has a true way of being, but the public persona they use might not match up to their real self. And it’s the persona that the fandom is writing about, not the actual person.

The idea of canon gets a lot more complicated when there’s both a book and a movie. Or when there’s an original and a reboot. Or when it’s a comic book series that has been running since the 1930s. Or when it’s a fictional story based on real life events.

What you value is up to you. What you enjoy is up to you. But it’s also important to remember that what other people value and enjoy is up to them. You don’t have to spend time and energy trying to make people agree with you. You really don’t. You can just realize that some people love canon best. Some people love fanon best. Some people love their headcanons best. And most people enjoy different aspects of each and pick and choose as they go.
