UKL: I have no great opinion of it. When so many adult critics were carrying on about the “incredible originality” of the first Harry Potter book, I read it to find out what the fuss was about, and remained somewhat puzzled; it seemed a lively kid’s fantasy crossed with a “school novel”, good fare for its age group, but stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.
JKR literally wrote a manifesto against nonbinary people and trans men, and smeared autistic people while she was at it, so can y'all please stop acting like the JKR bullshit is somehow an issue unique to trans women only?
Stop acting like this isn’t a community-wide issue that affects ALL trans people. Especially autistic trans people.
Our trans brothers & nonbinary siblings in the UK deserve better than this. Stop forgetting them. Stop erasing them.
Since some people are unaware of the breadth and depth of JKR’s ableism:
In her award winning(!!!) essay, Rowling explained that she believes autistic trans men and boys (like myself) are not mentally competent to consent to our own medical care.
We’re easily influenced, you see. Gullible. Liable to be led astray by militant trans activists, social media, and the glamour and popularity that comes with being transgender.
JK Rowling, outspoken feminist and champion for the rights of women, wants to deny medical autonomy to “girls” because she thinks we’re overly-emotional, frivolous, and susceptible to peer pressure.
She has spoken directly about her belief that autistic “girls”, especially, should not be allowed to transition because we’re intellectually incapable of forming, recognising, and articulating our own identities, and especially vulnerable to “social contagion”.
But, of course, the law doesn’t (shouldn’t) discriminate, and if autistic teens and/or adults can’t legally consent to treatment of gender dysphoria, we can’t legally consent to the treatment of anything. We won’t be able to access any treatment or medication without approval from a responsible adult.
The ability of trans kids to consent to their own medical care has already been the subject of a court case (Bell vs Tavistock). It was overturned on appeal, but one of the potential consequences of that specific case was that cis teens could have lost access to hormonal contraception without parental consent.
If Rowling gets what she’s said she wants, the knock-on effect may well be that autistic people in the UK lose the ability to live independently.
This is one of the things she’s putting her social and financial clout into. Her ongoing activismisa danger to the lives and wellbeing of all trans people and all autistic people in the UK and abroad.

Lots of folks in the notes pointing out snakes are not technically deaf - you’re right! They’re not. But I’d like to point out that having a creature that hears largely by vibrations in the ground through their bones communicate via a hissing language that would be nigh-inaudible for them due to a lack of carried vibration (as opposed to, y'know. Normal speech, which has a glottal weight to it) is still a major oversight. Snakes are the LAST animal that would try to communicate through language in that way. It’s like the hardest type of sound to expect them to hear, unless you’re an inch from their head.

i think i’m done with the Harry Potter universe
it no longer sparks the same joy and getting more into Heartstopper has opened my eyes to the fact that diversity and representation in media IS possible and it is there! the HP world kinda blinded me to that and made me feel like i’d never have that queer rep i yearned for, that i’d just have to live with headcannons and fanfiction to get that rep. not to mention the transphobic stuff that doesn’t stop is really draining. and the new fb movie flopped so hard i have no faith that this franchise will be good again.
i will continue to interact and support all my friends and fav creators who still make hp stuff ily all still <3 and i’m happy to accept hp commissions or patreon requests, but just don’t expect any big hp pieces from me. (i do have a scorbus thing in the works but it’s only scorbus themed for my own sanity of already knowing my character designs for them)
once i escape this art block i obviously plan to do art for my current hyperfixation on the Osemanverse, but hopefully other fandoms too and i’m happy to take suggestions on which ones!

It’s funny how activism and allyship go out the window at the first sign of personal inconvenience, huh? The trailer for JK Rowling’s newest cinematic bowel movement dropped yesterday and a baffling number of people with pronouns in their bios are losing their freaking minds with excitement over it.
If you confront them about it, they’ll be the first to tell you that they absolutely do not support Rowling’s Problematic Views, but they just have to see their favorite middle aged men waving sticks around for two hours. It’s not their fault, really.
Well what if I told you that by still appearing in these movies, your favorite middle aged men are being part of the problem and you shouldn’t support them either? That includes Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law and especially Mads Mikkelsen, because he signed up to this franchise after Rowling started sharing her transphobic views. Maybe you should consider why that is.
And before you start with any “But the contract…!” nonsense:
Katherine plays Tina, one of the main characters in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. After she took a firm stance against Rowling’s bigotry last year, she’s rumoured to have been more or less written out of the franchise, she isn’t in any of the promo material and leaks indicate that she only has a few scenes in the new movie. Your faves have no excuse, they’re more famous and wealthy than Katherine, their careers wouldn’t be in danger for doing this, they simply don’t want to.
At the end of the day, pirate the movie if you’re curious to see it, but don’t go to the cinema, don’t post about it and stop pretending like if you ignore the problem, it’ll go away. Trans people feeling safe and welcome in online spaces is more important than your nostalgia or daddy issues. JK Rowling writes these new movies, she produces them, she’s got full control and she gets all the profit. Grow a fucking spine for once and stop supporting a bigot.
