I had some time to kill and started playing with some filters in Photoshop to make alternate versions of my Happy Spring drawing.

Here they are and I hope you like them.

Happy spring! (On the Northern Hemisphere that is.) I did not expect we’d be going into our second lockdown spring. But, I’m hopeful that life will start to get back to normal soon and I will ENJOY SPRING as much as I can anyway, and hope you will too! PS. My Etsy shop is filled with more hand drawn happiness like this.

ruthless sloth

on monday i am trying to explain why i love you to a friend. it’s true, she says, dead serious, you’re both ruthless people, and later at dance class someone tells me i am the most sloth-like person she knows because of my unnerving lack of bones, and when i see you in the afternoon you nod like you’ve just solved a really hard math problem and say ah, so you’re a ruthless sloth and i laugh so hard i almost fall over onto the grass, where you are sitting on an adirondack and smiling up at me.

i think life is too short not to tell people you love them when they are standing in front of you and doing the most excruciatingly mundane things, like buttering a slice of toast or waiting for the microwave to go off. it is precisely because they are buttering toast that they will hear you when you tell them how much you love them. does that make sense? love doesn’t arrive when you are too busy to look up. it arrives when you are waiting for the laundry to dry and the door in your chest is slowly creaking open, loosened by the drawl of the laundry machine. hey, someone says, and the whole world goes out like a firecracker.

let me explain: you are ruthless because you are kind. life is terribly short and it keeps growing shorter, but you hold each moment in your hands like a botanist studies the growth of a rare flower and you say hi, good morning, you say i hope your day is wonderful. it is the year of locusts and everyone would rather butter toast than admit they give a shit about each other, and honesty is fucking terrifying no matter how many times you’ve thrown yourself out the window and broken everything on the way down, but today you are wearing your nice sweater that you thrifted from town, and you look beautiful. your heart is hanging off one sleeve like a big keychain in the shape of california. you are pressing joy into the palm of the world, in the shape of a star.

i was waiting for the microwave to go off when you walked into the room. you looked like you wanted something to do so i pulled you onto the table and spun you around until we were both dizzy. there was nothing in the room to indicate the time of the day but i am sure it was morning. it was morning. the sun of your eyes left me light-headed with wonder.

hi, i said, smiling into your shirt. good morning. i love you.

saw an elderly man bent down w his phone trying to take a photo of the purple spring flowers growing next to the sidewalk ……… hope this mental image brought u as much joy as the real thing did for me <3

“If people did not love one another, I really don’t see what use there would be in having any spring.”
