Whenever I watch a history program on @BBC, @History Channel, or elsewhere, I make a habit of looking up the presenter’s educational background. I’d recommend you do the same, because you’d be surprised how many of them have nothing more than an undergraduate degree. Normally that would be fine because being a communicator is a skill that doesn’t necessarily require a PhD. But unfortunately many of them describe themselves as “historians” which leads the audience to assume that their statements carry the same weight that an Oxbridge professor in the field would have.
It’s really unfortunate, and is likely why we have so many ill informed history buffs who mean well but who have been woefully mislead. Furthermore, it’s a completely unnecessary problem. If the TV presenters simply had pride in what they did and correctly called themselves presenters, then no one would make that mistake.

I guess due to the holiday next week the next new episode won’t air until June 7th, and I’m a little upset. The preview shows something they caught on camera that looks an awful lot like the reports of Corpse Candles and Will-o-the-Wisps. Those are super rare to catch on film, and I really want to watch the footage.
