citymaus:

An estimated 1.7 million people in Hong Kong—A QUARTER OF THE POPULATION—defied police orders to stage a peaceful march after a rally in a downtown park, after two months of increasingly violent clashes that have prompted severe warnings from Beijing and failed to win concessions from the city’s government.

Huge crowds filled Victoria Park on Sunday afternoon and spilled on to nearby streets, forcing police to block traffic in the area. Torrential rain came down an hour into the rally, turning the park into a sea of umbrellas. At the same time, protesters walked towards Central, the heart of Hong Kong’s business district, and surrounded government headquarters.”

The Highlight of the Week: Nightscapes of Asia by Julia Wimmerlin

After being a marketing professional, photographer Julia Wimmerlin changed her focus on photography. By traveling around the world she visited the colorful and different Asia. As I asked her, what kind of experience did you get by visiting such large cities of Asia, Julia replied it is “very rewarding as the big cities of the new economies like Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore are changes and hardly can be found as the "old world”. She also added that “the density of the population is so high there, that the buildings look like a very dense forest offering what the photographer needs the most - interesting light to capture.” So here you guys, really great shots of night cities and those magical lights of night life.

The last couple of weeks has been quite entertaining, from flying to Hong Kong and Bangkok to seeing an extreme street fight to getting severe food poisoning!! Quite a bit squeezed in, so being back in London now has been recouping and regenerating myself again x
This was our first trip traveling together (Stacey), I must admit that it is quite nice having a friend on your journey. It stops you from doing the same old boring routines I may have and actually share some of my strange moments while I’m away x

There are still so many places I’d like to visit and travel around, just not enough time.

Hong Kong

What a evening in Hong Kong… Going out to get some bread at a local 7/11 shop you see some of the most shocking things. Skinny little Indian guy being beaten in the middle of the streets by 3 guys, literally his head being kicked/stamped/jumped and then beaten with belts, traffic cone, glass till his head was split in 3 places. I’m glad I managed to film it all and helped him stop bleeding till the police and ambulance came. Such things like this saddens me. What’s the point? especially I saw he didn’t do anything, maybe cause he was Indian. Well I’m glad he was all okay and managed to stop bleeding with 2 packs of tissues, which was absolutely everywhere.

This truly saddens my trip including the dirty hygiene of food!

Excuse my rant.

I was going to wish all of my Chinese mutuals a happy 中共建党100周年 (100th anniversary of the founding of the CCP) but I cannot get myself to celebrate the Communist Party after the 2019 Hong Kong demonstrations and the lack of responsibility the CCP has taken to the world since the covid-19 pandemic started. It all looked so well in the 2010’s. China was opening up (significantly more), less censorship, less involvement with Hong Kong and Taiwan. But now… after State Secretary Xi Jinping came into power, it’s just gone worse and worse, and I cannot stand seeing my Chinese friends who are younger than me (freshly graduated high school) eat up everything the government serves them. I cannot stand that everyone, Chinese and non-Chinese alike licks CCP’s ass, in fear of going against them, scared of whatever consequences might come. So I will not give the Communist Party of China my well wishes. Instead, my well wishes goes out to the people of Hong Kong, the uighurs oppressed in Xinjiang, the more than one billion oppressed Chinese living under the dictatorship that is China, forced to live under censorship and other ridiculous rules made by the power-horny members of the CCP. Keep fighting for a better life.
