You see, during a tour in Iraq he sustained a traumatic brain injury — the result of a bombing — and the physical complications have left him unable to care for his sweet, active pups.

I’m a 4 year old chihuahua mix who is missing some of my hair but none of my personality and charm! I came to Home Animal Rescue with some skin issues, so my coat isn’t as luscious as it should be. But I’m on some meds and will hopefully be hair flipping with the best of them in no time!
I love going for walks and exploring nature! I usually go for shorter strolls around the neighborhood, but I’ve also been on a couple hikes with my foster mom. So I’m basically a certified adventure buddy! I’m so lucky that my foster mom and dad stay home with me most days, but I’m very polite and allow them to focus on work…as long as they remember to take breaks to give me some pets from time to time. At the end of a long work day, I like to cuddle up on the couch and watch TV. Because I’ve earned it, am I right?
I’m crate-trained and house-trained, so gold stars all around! I’m an A+ student, and I’m excited to learn even more things with my new family. I get along with the other dog in my foster home. She’s four times my size, but I still like to boss her around every now and then. One time, I met a cat…it was uneventful.

Don’t let her serious face fool you! When she’s not smiling and wagging her tail she looks displeased, but just show her a treat and her eyes will light up! Bella Sr loves going on walkies, she gets so waggy when she sees her leash, and those wags double when she sees her volunteer friends.
She loves to hang out in the park, letting the sun warm her as you pet her. She takes life at a mild but grateful pace.
This older lady is a local owner surrender who came in a few months ago, but poor Bella Sr has not had a single application come in. Her shelter friends think she is about 7-9 years old, 50lbs, healthy, active, and a total cuddle bug.
Bella Sr would prefer a home with no other dogs or maybe a very mellow dog, she has been playful with cats, and she will be good with children who respect her when she is sleeping/relaxing.
Oakland, California: Ponyo is a beautiful 2-month-old girl who’s learning to navigate the world on three legs (and doing a great job!). Although she might need some extra assistance at times, she’s always determined to give it a shot on her own first.
Ponyo loves to chase wand toys, but she also loves to snuggle after a long day of exploring. She’s always happy to find out where the sun is shining and plop herself down to soak up the warmth. Although she can be reserved with new people, she’s quick to come around. She’s also a purr machine who’s content to sleep on your lap and give kisses in exchange for pets. Ponyo gets along well with other cats, too. She’s a sweetheart with a lot of love to give!
