#marchmeetthemaker Day 20 Design Process

I don’t have anything awesome to confess today. My design process starts with an idea and moves directly into sculpting.

As I’m sculpting, the form and design usually come together organically. Other times, I’m sending pictures of design options and colors to my brother @bendragonstudio, my sister @celisticwolf and my bestie @punkdivaa311 .

I feel like I’m still finding or defining my style, and I’ve always been so indecisive in general, so I never really know what I like best.

This little “dragon chick” was a perfect example of my process:
I knew I wanted to do yellow and use feathers. I was thinking of a chicken costume as my basic idea.

While mixing pink and yellow to make the orange color, I fell in love with the swirls, so I made the horns and belly with the marbled colors.

When it came to incorporating the feathers, I relied on my trusty friend triangle for feedback on which of two looks was voted cutest.
