There are some exciting cards in Modern Horizons, and I don’t just mean the powerful cards (Urza!!) or the obviously useful (Force of Negation!). What gets me excited are the smaller, more obscure, cards, that just happen to go really well into some of my favourite commander decks. So in no particular order:

1] Cordial Vampire
Whenever a creature dies, I get a +1/+1 counter on each of my creatures? I happen to play a Marchesa, the Black Rose, Vampire tribal deck, based around putting counters on my creatures so I can sacrifice them and return them to play with Marchesa’s ability. Cordial Vampire could have been designed specifically for me!

2] Genesis
I started playing Commander back when Alara block had just been released, and ever since I’ve dreamt of one day having Genesis. I know it was never crazy expensive, but it always seemed just above the price I wanted to pay for it. I waited for years and could not understand why it never got reprinted - not even in Ultimate Masters, the graveyard set it would have been perfect in. Finally, someone in R&D has heard my whispered prayers - Genesis is here! Now where to play it?

3] Throes of Chaos
My favourite thing to do in magic, is move lots of cards from one zone to another. My second favourite thing to do is to cast random free spells from my library. Cascade and Retrace on a single card? My Jodah, Eternal Archmage deck that plays every Cascade card is very excited.

4] Fists of Flame
Zada, Hedron Grinder, just wants to be loved. And when I say loved, I mean targeted by an instant or sorcery that says ‘draw a card’. Fists of Flame does much more than that - it will draw a card for each of my creatures, give them all trample, and each one will get a higher power boost than the last. This is a powerful finisher for Zada and I can’t wait to play it.

5] Springbloom Druid
Izoni Thousand-Eyed is always looking for ways to fill her graveyard, and to get all of her ramp on creatures to boost Undergrowth. Harrow on a 1/1 body is ideal for this deck - 3 mana is a great spot on the curve for ramp, the body gives sac fodder, and the ability helps fix for Izoni’s tricky mana requirement.

Cannes Fashion 2

So here is the second half to my Cannes dedicated blog this Friday, and here are another five fashion picks of mine…

Olivia Palermo went for the edgy vibe in a black beaded Roberto Cavalli long-sleeved mini dress and she attended the designers yacht party. She teamed with a cobalt blue clutch bag with chain detail.

The nude dresses seem to be a favourite in Cannes this year, as Jessica Biel is another to step out in the colour at the Inside Lleywn Davis premiere, her take being a feathered, embroideredMarchesa dress which she teamed with nude heels and a snake necklace which twisted around her neck. Stunning.

Cara Delevigne ditched the shirt under her structured beaded Roberto Cavalli blazer, which she paired with matching sheer pants by the designer. The British model attended the Trophee Chopard Awards.

Another Nebraska premiere look here on Heidi Klum and where do we look first? The supermodel wore an on-trend white Versace gown with a one sleeved design, thigh high split and rhinestone detailing.

Last but most definately not least, Jessica Chastain looked the image of a Grecian goddess rather than a Hollywood star as she attended the premiere of Cleopatra. She wore a white floor-length Versace number and teamed it with a sapphire pendant and ring from Bulgari’s Elizabeth Taylor Collection.

Excluding the beautiful grammy dresses on Monday, these are my top five picks this week!

Beyonce hit the red carpet for her ‘Life Is But A Dream’ premiere, her new reality documentary wearing a stunning floor-lenght embellished Elie Saab from the Spring/Summer 2012 Couture collection.

Mila Kunis was at the premiere of her new film 'Oz The Great and Powerful’ in Hollywood this week, wearing a stunning classical Dolce and Gabbana dress, with layered nude lace detail, she teamed it with metallic Louboutins and earrings by Sutra.

Olivia Wilde attended the Calvin Klein show in New York this week, wearing a blue netted dress, statement coat and black heels all by the brand. She teamed it with a sleek ponytail, aviator sunglasses and a croc clutch.

Another fashion week entry, with Olivia Palermo at the Marchesa show, she hit the front row with the brands very own AW embellished frock coat, teaming it with skinny jeans and black pump heels.

Victoria Beckham after a busy week showing her two collections at NYFW, hit the shops for some retail therapy in New York in cropped wide-leg trousers and a neat black sweater - all from her collection. She teamed this with Manolo Blahnik heels and another one of her collection must-have bags.
