Minneapolis-St. Paul - Rachelle, Nicole, thanks for hosting and touristy tips! This set is another example of why I’m set on buying a nice DSLR camera soon. A little grainy at times and unfocused shot, which leaves our shot together Rachelle, out of the mix.

At any rate, the Basilica of St. Mary (1) in Minneapolis and the Cathedral of St. Paul (2) in St. Paul were designed by the same architect. The cathedrals website has some interesting text on its history, including that the high altar was designed by the same man who designed Grand Central Terminal in NYC. Cool huh?

I liked this shot of Rachelle looking out over the Stone Bridge back into Minneapolis (3). Thanks for having me and showing me around town!

Nicole (4), I know you hate this shot, but I think it’s great in its unstructured mess. It was so great seeing you again since you left New York and actually meeting your dad. Until next time right?

For eveyone griping about looting, here are some alternative things to get mad about!

1.) if we are mad at looting then we should return every single artifact and curio in our museums that we have looted from other countries.

2.) Maybe we should start arresting and prosecuting the assholes who buy diapers and sanitizer in bulk to illegally resell at an insane cost while poor families who actually need those items can’t get any because of it.

3.) You should be mad at the double standard of how police treat different protests. Armed “protesters”were allowed to enter a government building WITH THEIR GUNS to politically intimidate, threaten & terrorize politicians who wanted to protect the community with the quarantine. Some even physical pushing police in riot gear but the police did not react and instead protected them. But protesters who seek justice and accountability for a black man brutally murdered by a police officer get beaten, shot at, pepper sprayed and tear gassed.

4.) the more radical protesters who have been causing property damage WHO DO NOT represent the majority of peaceful protestors are going to be grouped as a whole by the right wing to excuse the police brutality against the regular law abiding protestors and black people.

5.) And finally and most importantly, the four fired officers each have a prior history of police brutality that was swept under the rug and ignored STILL have not been charged with MURDERING the unarmed, handcuffed and helpless George Floyd. Everyone SHOULD be irate at THAT!

Gene’s Surf Riders.  Filipino-American musicians playing at the Crown Cafe, East Hennepin, Minneapolis. Photograph Collection 1937-1938.

Minnestoa’s Filipino community had its beginnings in a small group of 25 to 30 Filipino students – predominately males – who enrolled at the University of Minnesota and other colleges during the late 1910s and early 1920s. It was not until the late 1920s that systematic recruitment brought 150 to 200 Filipino laborers each spring and summer to Minnesota’s sugar beet fields, truck farms, and canneries. (Mason, S. R. Virtual Aquatennial continues with another new print release - “Skyline Storm”

The city lights cast a warm orange glow across the bottom of an otherwise dark and ominous shelf cloud as it sweeps across downtown Minneapolis.  A cold wind interrupts the humid still air.  Lightening strikes in the distance.  I get one last snap and retreat to safety.

The city lights and lightning looks especially striking on glossy brushed aluminum.  The highlights on this print literally shine and change as the light in the room changes.

This image will be limited to 100 prints.  Each comes signed and numbered.

Plus, this week I’m offering this and my Limited Edition Mpls Aqua prints with a 10% discount, and I’ll still donate 10% of sales of these to the Aquatennial Ambassadors Organization’s Scholarship Fund.

Hi! Great news. I was accepted into the University of Minnesota’s landscape architecture master’s program and will be pursuing a concentration in sustainable community development. There are also plenty of public art and creative placemaking opportunities that I plan to carry on when I move there.

With that said…I am going to be a new kid in Minneapolis (or St. Paul)! Looking to connect with some people there! Any info that you think I should know about the place, feel free to respond!

Late nights working on the application, compiling supplemental materials, writing two essays and putting together a portfolio…did not go to waste. Happy to say that I will be attending University of Minnesota this fall for a Masters in Landscape Architecture with a concentration in Sustainable Community Development. Lots of opportunities for public art and creative placemaking as well so I will be continuing on down that path even when I’m there! #UniversityofMinnesota #gradschool #landscapearchitecture #twincities #minneapolis

Audio ID: [“Hello friends. Quick update from Minneapolis, I’ll try to make it fast. Last week there was another police murder. His name was Winston Smith. Twelve (12) plain clothes cops rolled up on him in his car and shot into his car and killed him.

We’ve been protesting, and as a result, two days ago at one of the protests, a white man drove through the barricades and hit several protesters, and he killed one. Her name was Diana Marie. When she got hit, cops showed up in full riot gear before an ambulance came, and when the ambulance arrived, the cops were blocking the ambulance from getting to them because there were so many of them.

Cops have been attacking protesters every time, and the National Guard is coming out in a day or two now.”] /End ID.

Caption ID: [”there is a full-blown military occupation currently in minneapolis and no one outside of here (that i have talked to) has heard anything. social media posts are being suppressed, the news is reporting inaccurate things, cell service is being jammed, mass arrests being made every night, helicopters circling every night, i am terrified.”] /End ID.
