Minneapolis-St. Paul - Rachelle, Nicole, thanks for hosting and touristy tips! This set is another example of why I’m set on buying a nice DSLR camera soon. A little grainy at times and unfocused shot, which leaves our shot together Rachelle, out of the mix.

At any rate, the Basilica of St. Mary (1) in Minneapolis and the Cathedral of St. Paul (2) in St. Paul were designed by the same architect. The cathedrals website has some interesting text on its history, including that the high altar was designed by the same man who designed Grand Central Terminal in NYC. Cool huh?

I liked this shot of Rachelle looking out over the Stone Bridge back into Minneapolis (3). Thanks for having me and showing me around town!

Nicole (4), I know you hate this shot, but I think it’s great in its unstructured mess. It was so great seeing you again since you left New York and actually meeting your dad. Until next time right?

Tonight I sampled the fish fry at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waite Park. I wasn’t sure whether I had been there before. Now I’m nearly certain it was a new fish fry for me.

What’s on the menu: all you can eat hand-breaded fried fish, roasted red potato wedges, baked beans, rye bread. Cookies. Ketchup, malt vinegar, homemade tartar sauce, lemon slices. Available drinks included in the price: water, pink lemonade, coffee.

Drive through or take-out available.

What’s the damages? $10 for one adult, $6 for children 4-12 years old, free for kids 3 and under.

The hot, flaky fish had a crisp cornmeal breading that was a little saltier than I like. The potato wedges were seasoned with a little rosemary–delicious. The baked beans were on the firm side. Cole slaw was advertised as part of the meal, but I did not see any when I arrived fairly late. Overall, a good meal for a fair price (and a good cause).

Between two options for fish fry, I decided on trying one that was new to me. I went to the Kimball Lions annual Lenten fish fry, which was held at the American Legion Club in Kimball. The Lions Club also has an annual fall fish fry.

What’s on the menu: all you can eat fried fish, shoestring french fries, potato salad, baked beans, bread. Cookies and bars, some homemade. Ketchup, tartar sauce, lemon slices. Available drinks included in the price: water, milk, coffee.

The fish had a crispy corn flake breading. The french fries were an unusual feature, and good. The baked beans were bland and a little sweet.

Other beverages can be purchased at the bar.

The room was almost full, and they did a steady business.

Two weeks ago I went to the Two Rivers Youth fish fry, which was at the Pelican Lake Ballroom in St. Anna.

What’s on the menu: fried fish, popcorn shrimp, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, potato wedges, bread. Available drinks included in the price: water, coffee, milk, “juice”.

What’s the damages? $10 for one adult, $8 kids 6-13, freewill offering for children 5 and younger.

Please note, this is not “all you can eat.” It is one pass through the buffet line.

Unusual feature: A view of the lake.

The fish was hot but had a thick coating of breading. The lightly seasoned potato wedges were good. The macaroni and cheese was tasty–best I’ve had at a fish fry. I didn’t try the cole slaw. The “juice” turned out to be slightly watery Kool-Aid.

They’re having one again tonight.

Other options that I know and have already tried are All Saints Academy in St. Joe ($10 adult, $6 grade 6 and younger), and St. Augustine’s in St. Cloud ($10 adult).
