MISSED CONNECTION: I spotted your copy of “Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung” on a table at the Chicago Zine Fest afterparty, but I couldn’t find you. If Lester Bangs’ freewheeling genius sets off fireworks in your brain too, let’s meet at a late-night diner and let it blurt about punk rock, zines, the fine art of literary self-destruction, and the way one perfect song can make the whole world go shimmery at the edges, if only for a moment.

I was walking home from the convenience store with a grocery bag in my arms when you bumped into me on the corner of 5th and Main and mumbled a quick “sorry.” I turned around, and you looked up. For a single, suspended moment, you took my breath away. I don’t know who – or what – you are but I have never seen something so beautiful. I tried to say “hello” but you were in such a hurry. So, if you read this… if there is such a thing as destiny, come find me again, 8pm tonight at the Fallen Angel Tavern.
