Kaye from Tithe.Holly Black is one of my favorite authors, and it’s a shame I haven’t created more fanart of her work. I ought to remedy that.

Kaye noticed that the boozy Magnus the Magnicent was watching Alec with a gleam in his catlike eyes. It really was too bad Alec seemed too sunk in gloom to notice.

This is what Holly Black had to say about switching from YA to Adult Fantasy. This makes me even more excited to read her new book! I grew up reading her kids books, and then YA books, and as much as I love them I’d love to read something that’s meant for my age (I’m turning 27 soon) and tackles issues I can more closely relate to. This really feels like it’s meant for those of us who have loved Holly’s work from the beginning and have outgrown the YA stuff a bit. It’s nice to feel like she hasn’t forgotten us (I’m also very excited for her new YA book though!)

most ya girls: nothing has happened to me ever. my life is so boring. so average. my personality reflects this OR the only notable thing about me is i’m the orphaned long lost princess ORboth

holly black girls: her life has been any where from not great to straight up awful and it’s about to get Much, Much Worse

Holly Black girls really do go through it

Today!! Starts in about an hour and a half. You don’t need to join the facebook group to watch and I think they will be archived to watch later if you can’t make it to the live.

more “angst with a happy ending” stories in media. i’ve had ENOUGH grimdark and edgy shows that try to teach u that life is hard and doesn’t always end like you want, like! we know! we live here on planet earth too, guys! like yeah stories w 0 conflict are impossible to maintain but u can have a good amount of angst without trying to teach the audience a lesson we already know way too well

tbh this is why I love the Modern Faerie Tales and consider them superior to TFOTA. At least so far, but I’m sue for a reread for sure when the reprints come out.

Tithe and Ironside (I skipped Valiant don’t judge me. I was (AM) a Roiben stan and cared about nothing else) were muuuuuch grittier than TFOTA, which is a sort of gilded sharpness I guess??? But by contrast that made the payoff feel sooooo good.

Yesss!! I love the grittiness of Holly Black’s early work, I wish she would bring that back
