Tattoos now being celebrated in fashion world.

For a long time, tattoos were looked down upon everywhere. People wouldn’t be hired because they had a small tattoo on their arm or leg, and long sleeves were necessary in job interviews. This was especially true with models in the fashion world, for their body was basically a canvas and if they got a tattoo, it would be considered them “dirtying the canvas.” However, over the past couple of years, that mindset has changed. Not only are tattoos accepted, but they are sometimes even celebrated. Rick Genest, pictured above, got tattoos all over his body, and didn’t even attempt to be a model. Pictures of him surfaced the internet, and, all of a sudden, he was wanted for very notable fashion shows. Furthermore, Cara Delevingne, one of the most used and highest paid models in the last couple of years, started to get more recognized for her iconic tattoos. Her detailed lion tattooed on her finger, or even the “Bacon” word on her foot, were now seen in major magazines. Fake tattoos are even drawn on models in order to create an “edgier” look.

Tattoos may still have a stigma, but the fashion world is now making it more acceptable to have them. No longer dirtying the canvas but rather adding beauty to the body, tattoos are becoming much more mainstream.

Join the Reformation

It’s important to recognize that creating clothing causes a lot of pollution in the world. People don’t realize the chemicals companies use, the waste they make, or even the way the clothes have to be transported causes much pollution that isn’t widely talked about. “Made in Italy” or “Made in China” is constantly seen, but people don’t seem to understand that those clothes made a mark on the earth’s ozone layer by having to be shipped from so far away.

Reformation, a brand started only a couple years ago, is attempting to “wake people up” in order for their customers and everyone to see that “fashion is the third most polluting industry in the world.” Not only that, but they actually are a brand that creates less pollution and uses recycled materials to leave less of a carbon footprint. With every garment they produce, they show the customer what exactly went into making the item of clothing (i.e. chemicals and waste). Reformation isn’t highly known, but their work is extraordinary. It’s time for other brands to #jointhereformation, and clean up their footprint.

90′s fashion is here to stay.

Top left is Helmut Lang Spring 1997. Top right is Marques Almeida Fall 2015. The Kate Moss influence of the 90′s has yet to die down, and the want for the sheer dresses and drop waist silhouettes that raged in the 90′s is here to stay. Look at many current runway shows and one can see that 90′s style is still influencing designers today.

Meet Monica Rose.

One could argue that some of the most influential people in the fashion world are models/sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner. If one of these girls wears a certain dress and is photographed in it, that dress will sell out within a day. People constantly discuss these girls’ fashion forward and cutting edge style, and how their outfits are put together so perfectly. However, the person behind these great outfits isn’t getting anywhere near the credit she deserves. Monica Rose has been styling Gigi, Bella, Kendall, and Kylie for over 4 years, putting them in hundreds of outfits, but people don’t hear anything about her. Of course, you could follow her Instagram and see that she styles almost every single outfit that any of these girls wear in public, but her following isn’t even a fourth of what any of these girls have. Hey, that’s the job of the stylist, but it’s interesting that these girls are getting praised for their style when they actually aren’t picking out their outfits. Monica needs more credit for her work, but for now, fashionistas of the world will give all the credit to the Hadid and Jenner sisters.

Lua, going far.

I have followed Luanna Perez for six years now, since before she moved to New York and “ombre hair” was a thing. She allowed me to discover my true style while she was still struggling to find a way to get to New York. Looking at her now, it’s clear how much blogging can actually be a career. She not only has 2+ million followers on Instagram, but has travelled the world, collaborated on multiple brand collections, and has been featured in multiple magazines. She no longer seems to be struggling, but reveling in her life (as she should). The girl who needed to live in her aunt’s apartment in the Bronx when she first moved to NY is now able to buy multiple designer labels and live in a nice apartment, yet still keeps her “vintage” touch. Never doubt blogging.
