I’m certain this is too late to strictly belong in this collection, the cut of their coats and collars suggests a later date by far, but it’s just too amusing not to include - it really made me smile to see such a witty, frivolous moment captured on camera!

Forgive me a minor deviation from our usual theme, but I found this photograph of my own great-grandfather this week - taken 1914 when he enlisted in the British Army at the age of 19, one of the first to go, and fortunate enough to come back safe.

We share a remarkable resemblance for being three generations apart - identical mouth and jawline, and my nose would have been very similar too, had I not broken it two times too many and been left with quirky asymmetry.

Affectionate Valentine couple-1870s

I’m not sure whether the Valentine’s attribution is original to the taking of the photograph, or attached later out of a little sentimental wishful thinking, but I’m willing to go with it and post this for today’s significant date.

While this particular picture from 1875 may not be either romantic or erotic, I thought it far too amusing not to share. And the top-right gent is a bit of a stunner, don’t you think?

Huge Carved Kalpavriksha Inside the Jain Temple of Khambat, Gujarat

A huge carved kalpavriksha (probably the largest one found) inside the jain temple of Khambat, which was later converted into Jami Masjid.

The carving is similar to the one found inside the jain temples of Dilwara, Kumbhariya & Ranakpur.
