Platinum Jubilee Silk Scarf, Westminster Abbey Shop, 2022

Designed with artist Rory Hutton, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

The coronation chair forms the centre of the scarf’s design, as the starting point of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. The martlets and oak leaves which originally decorated the coronation chair represent strength and nobility.

Surrounding the central motif are traditional symbols which are repeated throughout the architecture of Westminster Abbey - including the heraldic lion, the crown, the fleur-de-lis, the Tudor rose, the English rose, the Irish shamrock and the Scottish thistle. (No Welsh leek that I can see though!)

Platinum Jubilee collection by Design Bridge for Fortnum & Mason

A corgi sits at the heart of design, topped by a truck wheel – a gesture to the then Princess Elizabeth’s time as a truck driver and mechanic during WW2. They are surrounded by racing pigeons, racehorses, a pearl necklace, royal swans, and lily of the valley, her favourite flower, which was included in her wedding bouquet. The cabbage is a nod to Prince Philip’s nickname for the Queen. All these elements together form the Crown.

Diana Ross, 78, ‘set to headline The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert as she takes to the UK stage for the first time since 2007’

Thoughts whilst watching “Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen”:

How remarkable that one of (if not the) most photographed/filmed people in the world has kept such a massive collection of, until now, entirely private photos and videos for all these years. In this modern age of social media and oversharing, I think this documentary is a reminder of the value of photos and videos primarily as personal memories to treasure, and not just as self-advertising to broadcast for meaningless likes and views. It’s a reminder of the importance of documenting personal, family memories simply for that purpose alone, not for filtering the hell out of and using to try and gain some sort of meaningless popularity. Just my rambling thoughts.

This is the complete video - 2:18 minutes - including the last little part where they clinked the teacups and saucers with their spoons. Yesterday I didn`t know that there was an extended version. I love that video so much.

Have to admit, moderately impressed by the one part of the Jubilee I actually watched on TV, which was the queen interacting with Paddington Bear. Like. This woman is in her nineties and they figured out how to get her to interact pretty darn well with a fully CGI character. Well done, effects people.

This was followed by songs from Queen, which despite being called Queen does not have songs that fit the monarchy At All. Those have weirded me out just hearing them from a room over knowing it’s the music for a jubilee event. ESPECIALLY “We Are The Champions (of the world)” being played for the literal monarch of the literal British Empire In Decline.

i can’t listen to god save the queen without hearing the red special in my head
