#puerto rico
Puerto Ricans are Americans.
power is still out across much of puerto rico after the entire island abruptly lost it yesterday night (4/6) w/no prior warning
this is exactly why people on the island have been mobilizing and protesting against LUMA (the private amerikan-canadian owned energy company that was essentially gifted control of pr’s electrical grid by pr’s unelected and US imposed fiscal control board) since day fucking 1 of its island-wide implementation
“since luma showed up 10 months ago, puerto rico has experienced 14 general blackouts or blackouts that have affected large parts of the country and our electricity bill has increased by 64%”
the US government and its parasitical ruling class will wax poetic about the importance of sovereignty for independent states yet maintain colonial occupation and the continued privatization of a country theyve never had any rightful “ownership” of - all while refusing to assist our people in any meaningful way when their actions directly endanger us and/or our families. no power means no refrigeration, no fans or AC, no phones, no internet, and in some places - no safe drinking water. schools and workplaces shut down and according to my family cell service is still severely impacted as of this morning (4/7)
even though pr’s secretary of health was on twitter last night claiming hospitals have functional generators a journalist in mayagüez was reporting this wasnt true and explicitly asking pr’s clown pro-statehood governor for help even though he’s currently not even in the damn country bc he’s running from his involvement in a scandal to sell pr’s protected land to amerikan venture capitalists
ni luma ni colonia independencia ya
