Brooklyn based @ruby_rae writes and performs music that defies easy categorization: a catalogue of influences would include Wanda Jackson, Mazzy Star, Stone Roses, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Both vibrant and dark, simultaneously catchy and psychological, the sound is cinematic and complex - drawing on diverse sources that include folklore, mythology, horror films, and autobiography.
“The Uncanny” evokes feelings of nostalgia for things that maybe never happened, hopes of returning home, and tries to understand what it takes to leave one life behind and start another once your heart is aflame. With a slight honkytonk throwback, her tunes are darker than your usual singer-songwriter fare, with noir-ish and Southern gothic influenced lyrics.
