#reposting
hi guys.
this blog is going on hiatus for over a month because i cannot keep up with posts and school finals. sorry for the inconvenience!
and this is also a formal call for new members to this blog. i cannot run it alone really, and any help would be great for all of our followers (as you all know, we’re not updating as much as we used to mostly due to my time restraints).
you can message us on this blog here or on my primary blog here with your email and a simple promise that you’ll keep this blog updated best as you can.
thanks so much for sticking with us!
So I recently noticed a photo of Jeanette floating around online, mislabeled as a “bisque and wooden doll by DeHors, late 1860s.” Which could really play havoc with people’s research, so I’d like to set the record straight.
This:
is one of my French fashion dolls, nicknamed Jeanette. She has been attributed to Jumeau, not DeHors, and the early 1870s, not the late 1860s. She has a method of neck articulation patented by DeHors in 1867, which may be where the confusion came from, but her face is very typical of Jumeau’s fashion ladies. And to cap it all off, her body is of kid leather, not wood.
(I only wish I had any chance of affording- or someone buying me -a wood-bodied French fashion doll.)
This picture was on a post with clear information, and I’m really upset that someone’s been spreading it under the wrong maker name. And apparently without sourcing, since anyone who actually went to this blog could immediately see that the reposter was wrong about pretty much everything.
If you see anything else like this out there, please let me know.
hello, engeki-haikyuu tag on tumblr
i just saw that someone reposted my entire “Tetsuko and Kenko” gifset with the gifs in non-chronological order. i did not, and will not ever, give permission to repost my gifs like that. for those of you that don’t know, reposting someone else’s work just like that, especially without proper permission, is a big no-no.
i’ve properly and politely asked the person who did it to please take that post down and to reblog my post instead, and i hope they do at least take it down. some of you might not think it’s a big deal, but it kind of is to me, considering i can’t art and i havent been able to write fanfic in AGES, so i feel like GIFs are the only thing i can make and contribute anymore, and considering how my Haisute gifsets aren’t even getting anywhere near as many notes - let alone reblogs coz i guess the trend has changed and people dont like to reblog things anymore the way we used to back in the 2010s - as my Critical Role gifsets and some of my BNHA Ultra Stage gifsets, it really sucks to see someone else take away from those scant few notes even more. reposting feels like someone else taking credit and attention away from my work, even passing it off as their own in some cases, and in most circles that’s called plagiarism, which, you know, is not cool.
so i know i havent been putting the “PLEASE DO NOT REPOST” request on my gifsets like most people do, but that’s because a) i use a very visible watermark on my gifsets in the hopes it will discourage reposting without permission, and b) being reposted this much, where an entire gifset was stolen and re-uploaded just in a different order, has never really happened to me before. i do not want to have to start putting that request in my gifsets, and i’ve been making gifsets since all the way back in 2010 (i’ve been here since 2009). so im just asking people to please be respectful and not repost work that isn’t their own willy-nilly. if you get proper permission to post someone else’s art or fic or whatever, that’s great, but don’t just do it without permission. if you ask but are rejected or ignored, don’t defy that, don’t repost.
so this is a blanket post now to remind everyone that while i am VERY appreciative of reblogs of my gifsets, and i’m so glad you like them even if i’m way behind on my love for Haisute coz i just started watching them in january this year, i do not allow reposts of my gifsets. maybe if one or two gifs appear in a compilation with other ppl’s gifs, i can let that go. using my gifs as reactions in posts is also okay in general. BUT what i dont allow is the downloading/saving of my gifsets and then reuploading them as your own post. doesn’t that take way more time than just hitting REBLOG anyway? you can try to ask me for permission to repost my gifsets, but i can guarantee you that 99% of the time, my answer will be no, and i would really appreciate it if that answer was respected.
also, i would rather that people didnt post my gifs anywhere else outside of tumblr. in the case of Haisute, @engekihaikyuu has a post on why their scans and gifs getting reposted outside of tumblr could be troublesome in terms of how japanese fandom works, and the same honestly stands for my gifs. i’m happy to make them and post them here for people to enjoy, and for those who don’t know that these stage musicals are a thing to maybe discover them - i’ve seen a LOT of people discover that the BNHA Ultra Stage musical/s exist coz of the gifsets i made a couple of years ago of the first one. but long story short, japanese fandom is far more respectful and appreciative of copyright and proper fan support when it comes to merch, art, interviews and photos, that sort of thing, and it’s already kind of pushing the limit of what’s okay by making gifsets here on tumblr, where there is far fewer japanese fandom to run into than on twitter. (there’s nothing we can do about google, unfortunately, google’s algorithms and tumblr bots like tumblar and tumgir will find and aggregate them into the search results.)
this has gone on longer than i was expecting it to, so tl;dr, please dont repost other fan’s crafted work, especially without permission. rediscover the reblog button, please. if you’d like to have my gifsets on your blog, feel free to check out my “GIFCIANA” tag on my blog and reblog from there.
Quaestor Valdemar aka the dangerous green bean
Hey u sexy thang.
So I get a lot of messages about whether or not ya’ll can repost my stuff to other websites, and honestly YA IM COOL WITH IT
*BUT*
please ask before you do so, and ALSO specify which piece it is you want to repost ALONG WITH YOUR SCREEN NAME/HANDLE for whatever website it is you’re posting to.
I see a lot of my art posted to insta and sometimes its by ppl who asked and sometimes ppl just post it with my tumblr name and thats it. Which is cool, but I’m also trying to build up a following on instagram with my personal/original/non fanart pieces, and it really helps to have both my contacts on the post.
Anyway thats all.

Apellai: Doric Civic Festival
TheApellai is a three day civic festival for initiating family and young men into the phratry, who controlled civic rights.
We can assume based on the similar Athenian festival Apatouria that the first day was a feast, the second a sacrifice to the paternal gods, and the third the initiation ceremonies and offerings by the initiates. Along with their sacrifice, a kouros, young man, would cut their hair and offer a lock of their hair to the gods. This is a practice attested for many gods who protect youths (Apollo, Herakles, the river gods, etc).
The festival is known to have occurred in several states and is proven to be practiced by all Doric states due to the inclusion of the month of Apellaios in their calendars. The association with Apollo is clear as his name appears in doric form ApellonἈπέλλων. Oaths were likely also given to Poseidon Phratrios and Zeus Patroos.
The father has to introduce his child first at the age of three, and again as a grown-up; and the husband has to present his newly married wife. The new entrant is led to the altars, and a sacrifice is due in each case; for a minor, lad, and marriage. All the Ionians have a three day festival Apatouria once a year, when the phrateres meet for a sacrificial banquet provided for from the entrance fees. Among the northwest Greeks, at least in Delphi, the Apellai have the same function, with the three corresponding sacrifices for child (paideia), youth (apellaia), and marriage (gamela).
Walter Burkert, Greek Religion pg 255
Today there are other government bodies that control civic rights and citizenship than the phratry, but it could be a time to celebrate approved visas, residency, or citizenship for those who live outside their country of birth. It could also be a wonderful opportunity to ‘initiate’ new and growing family members privately into the household. If performing this festival privately at home it could be appropriate to include your favoured household gods along with Apollo, such as Zeus Herkios and the Agathos Daimon.
didn’t think I had to say this but “Don’t Repost” means don’t save the image and upload it on a different blog or site; it’s not the same as reblogging!! please reblog, it’s how art and fics get around
I forgot to post this here, wrote it 4 months ago, if not more.
So a lot of the info is from that time, however, I still consider that there are some very relevant themse to the AOT/SNK fandom here.
This is a small analysis on the themes of the whole manga, and on what Reiner, Gabi and Eren represent and the reasons behind some character’s deaths.
SPOILERS AHEAD.
THEMES
So far from what I’ve seen of this manga, I’ve seen how the main themes are (mostly) four:
- - Otherness/empathy and how they work at war.
- - Power and corruption.
- - The cycle of revenge (sins of the father/an eye for an eye).
- - The “hero” and the crimes of war (duality between hero and monster).
With those themes we see how humanity works and is often redefined, the term of monster is also changed through the manga and otherness (the phenomenon where “I” and “my community” acquire identity by finding who the “Other” is, the “Other” is the person or community who is opposite of “me” or “us”. This is a very simplified definition.) and empathy (where I decide to try to see the world through the eyes of the other) are used to explain how a war works and how a “hero” of war, no matter how good his or her intentions are, will end up losing his or her humanity.
Otherness in war is how in conflict we divide upon one another, despite all of us being humans we start seeing our community as THE humans and the enemy as the monsters or the bad guys, and that division makes us give away labels all around, we judge the many for the few and put the term “evil” on them, deciding that they don’t deserve the same right as us. When the war ends there is a definition of who the “heroes” really were and a redefinition of who the “bad guys” were.
However, because of that we always forget that in any conflict there is always two sides, each side with their own heroes and their own reasons to have rationalized their actions.
This is what Attack on titan/Shingeki no Kyojin shows us through the manga.
At first the definition of humanity is easy: There are Titans and there are Humans. The traits of titans have similarity to the humans, but there’s no way for a human to consider them as something that is part of humanity. Titans are monsters; hence they are the enemy to fight in order to recover freedom.
Humanity and the definition of the enemy “other” start becoming less and less simple. In fact, it is at the very beginning, with Eren, that we see this subject.
EREN
Many people would consider this kiddo here a stupid brat who knows nothing at the beginning. However, from the very first scenes of the anime we manage to see something important: Eren is always fighting. This is something everyone and their mother knows already, what few stop to consider is: Fighting against what?
That’s where the otherness comes into play, he’s fighting against the ones he considers the “others”. We see Eren cheering for the scout regiment and then actively attacking those who wonder why the fuck there’s even a scout regiment when things are bad enough inside as to send a bunch of people out to show how, indeed, the titans are still hungry.
The scout regiment represents something very precious to Eren, and that will be seen throughout the anime and the manga: They represent hope.
Things are bad inside the walls, there’s little to no justice, the ones who deliver justice are not doing their job correctly and abuse is something very common.
Eren has lost hope in those who are supposed to keep him safe (the garrison), he does not believe in anyone to keep things as they should be, so, whenever he sees some thing he considers wrong, he reacts.
He reacts against people he considers the enemy, against the “others”: To know who are Eren’s “Others” we only have to see the first episodes of Attack on titan.
Based on actual events
