It was another lazy weekend afternoon for Mel and she was bored. She had a few hours to kill before she would go to the gym and she figured it would be best to just relax for a while. After an indeterminate amount of time the game loaded. As she got to grips with the game she found it was a rather simplistic RPG. Her character had a peculiar set of stats including fashion, waist, boobs, lips, hair. She found a lot of the options seemed superficial and wondered how they would help her in the artificial world of monsters and combat. Given several points to start with she found the one sensible option in which to invest them; brains. Everything else seemed vapid and she thought of herself as a fairly intelligent woman.

Next she checked her equipment. Of course she started out in some basic clothes that didn’t do much for her stats but she was a bit taken aback to notice how much they looked like what she was wearing in real life. It was kind of unnerving and she felt a small amount of concern for a moment before the screen flickered gently and her breathing became slower and deeper. Her concern slipped away all of a sudden and in its place the bubbliness increased. She checked what kind of upgraded equipment was available in the store and was somewhat disappointed that the only things that provided decent stat boosts were skimpy, ridiculous outfits that she would never want to wear in real life. It seemed kind of embarrassing just picturing her in game self wearing those kinds of slutty clothes.

As she tried to play the game she was beginning to get frustrated. Her character was so weak and useless. The brains stat didn’t help at all, in fact she was pretty sure it was making things harder. She needed to recruit a strong warrior to help her out but they all required higher stats in one of the silly options she had dismissed earlier. It was like she was meant to role-play as a ditzy bimbo who needed a man to fight for her, but she lacked the appeal to convince them.

At this point she would normally have quit the game and moved on, but something stopped her from doing that. Instead she decided to reinvest her skill points. 夜の部。

庭も完成し、家具も入ったということでプロのカメラマンさんに撮影していただきました。

思えば鹿島でデザインの仕事ができないとわかって辞めることを決断したのが2006年。それから京都の経営大学院に1年通ってイスタンブールのMBAコースに半年留学して、修士論文で町家を利用したゲストハウスの経営実態調査の研究をして。4年間の海外勤務でお金を貯めて、やっとこさ日本の町並みを保存するしくみ(経営×デザイン)の第一歩と相成りました。2006年から考えるとなかなか長い11年でした。

工事に入る前はそもそも不動産は見つからないし工事が始まってからも水道・ガス・電気工事してくれる業者も見つからないし材料の発注先もわからないなか、いろんな人に助けてもらいました。現場では大工さんと左官さんの3人で頑張っていましたが、このチームでなければここまでのものは作れなかったと思います。自分で言うのもなんですが奇跡のチームだったと思います。本当にありがとう。

そして名前を書ききれないほどたくさんの人に現場に手伝いに来てもらいました。また、工事現場の町内の皆さまには謎の若者3人組を温かく見守ってくれてありがとうと伝えたいです。

人間一人では限界があるけど、志と気合と根性があればなんかいろいろできるみたいです。またこれから新しい物語が始まりますが、次の物語も楽しんでいきたいと思います。

1階の和室の机と台所の作業台の天板は入手したので、あとは備え付けるのを待つのみです。造園に関しては近々造園屋さんに行き、庭に据える石を見てくる予定です。現状、内部は以下のような感じです。

最後まで頑張ります。

畳・襖が入りました。家具の購入、庭づくりは依然頑張っております。

お風呂場も無節の檜とシャワーバーがなかなかおしゃれです。

1階の襖をあけたり締めたり。

階段の手すりは八角の棒をつくり、エニ油を刷り込んであります。

二階に上がってみます。

写真には写っていませんが、ベット搬入しました。

二階の襖は仏具絵師さんに描いてもらいました。

一階の和室に据える机は、樹齢350年の1800mm x 900mm x70mmの杉の一枚板を買いました。通常杉は柔らかいので机には適していないのですが、目が細かく硬かったので、用に足りると判断しました。
ベットや布団、アメニティーなど、宿泊する準備は整いました。
あとは庭を早急に仕上げなければ。。。

玄関の扉、すだれが入って、ファサードの設えが完成しました。

トイレ・キッチンなどの設備工事も終わり、あとは畳・襖などの内装を粛々と進めていきます。

階段手摺も入りました。

照明もなかなか効果的に演出してくれます。

今週はこんなところです。

1階和室の壁をあさぎ土で、玄関室の壁を黄聚楽で塗りました。これにて土壁の施工はすべて終了です。感慨深い。

樋が古くなっていたのと、玄関の横に落ちてくるのが嫌で、逆サイドに振りました。足場を組まなくてはいけないのが大変でした。

すっきりしました。

エアコンを入れました。できるだけ室内から見えないようにしましたが、二階の洋室だけは隠す場所がありませんでした。無念。

吹き曝しだったので、台所に窓を付けました。

玄関の敷居を作っています。

2階の襖の絵を描いてもらう仏具絵師のかたから、デザイン案もらいました。

樋やさんに銅板で亀を作ってもらいました。

柱と土壁と光の構成が美しいです。

夜のホタル電球が綺麗でした。

今週はこんなところです。

左官さんが壁の仕上がりが気に入らないと、1.5mm粒径の砂をふるいにかけて自ら作成の上、1階の和室の土を塗りなおしてくれました。あさぎ土というすこし緑がかった土です。たしかに、塗りなおした後の土壁は大変美しい仕上がりでした。写真では乾燥しきっていないので、少し色が濃くでています。

大工工事は大きなところはもう終わり、建具の作成や洗面ボウルの取り付けなど、小さいものばかりになってきました。

腰掛の下の引き戸をはめたところです。まだ色がついていませんが。

お風呂場の照明は船舶用のものを使いました。デザインとコストのバランスが良く、船舶用なので、耐水・耐衝撃です。
