Crossing The Pass

Don’t think too badly of Wendy about being impressed by a mountain pass. Not counting plane flights, she’s never been farther east than Lake Washington.
Dielle is referring to an unknown episode of her cross country trip to Homestead. While she’s most likely exaggerating, don’t expect to get anymore details out of her.

Gage, sweetie, Dielle’s helping you out. Her saying she gave you a buffer to make sure you’re not late isn’t implying anything.
Anything Paul and the others are saying, however…

Today: I drive from Nashville, TN to Hot Springs, AR then Wednesday, I arrive at my for now destination: Austin, TX! Nashville was a bust. I only saw one friend I wanted to see. Zero photoshoots. Ah well. You live, you learn. The people who are consistent and reliable in my life are my true hero’s (I mean this, growing up with an alcoholic parent is no joke, leaving you always wondering). Feeling like this is going to my last road trip for a long time for many reasons. There’s just so many other things I want to focus on and most of those require being in one place and tending to my roots. Honestly though, who knows? ❤️

I’ll dream of black asphalt ribbons tonight, tying up the gift-wrapped silence of rolling plains.

Clouds’ summits thunder on the horizon, echoing future dreams.

Come wind.

Come rain.

Catch me.

My circumnavigation of the USA via motorcycle is over and I’m back in NYC. Time to rest for a couple days before my next adventure as a seminarian. Check back for more reflections.

Minneapolis-St. Paul - Rachelle, Nicole, thanks for hosting and touristy tips! This set is another example of why I’m set on buying a nice DSLR camera soon. A little grainy at times and unfocused shot, which leaves our shot together Rachelle, out of the mix.

At any rate, the Basilica of St. Mary (1) in Minneapolis and the Cathedral of St. Paul (2) in St. Paul were designed by the same architect. The cathedrals website has some interesting text on its history, including that the high altar was designed by the same man who designed Grand Central Terminal in NYC. Cool huh?

I liked this shot of Rachelle looking out over the Stone Bridge back into Minneapolis (3). Thanks for having me and showing me around town!

Nicole (4), I know you hate this shot, but I think it’s great in its unstructured mess. It was so great seeing you again since you left New York and actually meeting your dad. Until next time right?

Rapid City, SD and the surrounding areas-

On my way into Rapid City, I stopped for a quick look at Devil’s Tower (1), which is certainly a sight to see. But got in on the first night to Leah and her family, who took me out to see Mt. Rushmore (2). Leah’s dad tried to take a few proportion shots of us that weren’t working out as well as we would have liked compositionally, but we had a ball anyways. Saw George by looking through a rock (3) and a billy goat enjoying the sights and grass (4).

We climbed Harney Peak (5) and soaked in the view over lunch and a cliff.

Tried to go through a 8.5 by 24 in cement block testing ability to go though a spelunking cave. You can see by the veins in my hand (6) I was trying really hard to get unstuck. We did go on a lantern tour of a cave however (7), which greatly amused my inner child.

We drove through Custer State Park (8) and saw some buffalo (ie driving through two herds) and had a little run-in with a young bull. Entered and left by way of the Needles Highway (9). Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see Iron Mountain, but I’ll just save that for next time.

And from there, I took off from SD and headed north to Bismark and North Dakota’s plains.
