What is this movie?

The characters call it a “re-quel” (sequel/reboot) but I mean, they should have just called it a sequel. The returning characters are in it less and they give the new characters more to do than the ones in Scre4m, but still.

Is it scary?

It’s Scream. It’s pretty suspenseful, the Ghostface mask is a little creepy but nothing will send shivers down your spine.

Watching this I also knew that I would body Ghostface should they ever come at me

Is there blood and gore?

There is a lot of stabby stabby.

On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being Halloween Kills), how dumb are the characters?

A little dumb. Not super dumb. They, for the most part, know the rules of the slasher because Scream is just that meta. But they will sometimes straight up forget those rules or execute those rules in dumb fashion. 5/10.

Outside the sheriff, the cops have a combined 3 braincells.

Does the story make logical sense if you think about it too long?

Yeah, no, this one has some reaches.

So…

This movie is pretty much everything that Halloween Kills wasn’t. Or at least, it had the tone right. It made a point of not taking itself too seriously while still having stakes. It was playful and suspenseful and bloody and kept you guessing, which is what you want walking into this movie.

It does basically state, “This is not elevated horror, this a silly movie” from the jump which is respectable. And it does have some nice little commentary on today’s subculture of toxic fandom.

It’s not the tightest movie I’ve ever seen, with some characters making some questionable decisions and some characters are put in questionable directions, but still, it’s 5SCREAM. It doesn’t reinvent the franchise no matter how many times the characters say something like, “There’s something different about this one,” but it doesn’t need to.

I’ll give this a SC7EAM out of 10.

I hella called the killer like 10 minutes into the movie though, I want everyone to know.

They really put my man Dewey at rock bottom, and then murdered him. Holy shit.

That was a pretty good twist with the girl in the first attack surviving. When I first saw the trailer I was like, “Oh look, they gave away the entirety of Jenna Ortega’s role in the movie.” So, color me pleasantly surprised.

Kinda sad when slashers end entire family lines. They didn’t need to murder Wes like that right after his mom. Actually tragic.

Speaking of Wes, holy shit, if they dedicated a movie to me but named a character who gets murdered via slow neck stab after me, I’m throwing ghost hands.

This is the second time the actress for Amber has played a psycho killer that catches on fire. I sure hope she doesn’t get typecast into this.
