Sea World Orlando - Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin

SeaWorld Orlando has released its latest preview video for Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, showing off the high-tech vehicles that will be used on the new ride.

The video, embedded above features the park’s Creative Director Brian Morrow and Corporate Ride Engineer Mike Denninger. It includes footage of the vehicles undergoing testing, showing how a “trackless” system will be employed to enable the ride to offer a different experience every time.

Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, which will debut in 2013, is being billed by SeaWorld Orlando as “the world’s coldest theme park ride”.

On February 25, 2006, the Icelandic female Stella gave birth to her fourth calf at Kamogawa Sea World in Japan; a female named Ran II sired by the Icelandic male Bingo.

Ran II grew up under the watchful eye of her mother, but was also looked after by her older sisters, Lovey and Lara. Unfortunately, her other sister, Sarah, died in April of that year.

In 2008, when Lovey gave birth to a calf of her own, Stella, Bingo, and Ran II were moved to the back tank. Soon enough, plans were made to transfer the three to the Port of Nagoya Aquarium. The move was delayed until December, however, due to the 2011 tsunami that hit Japan.

In 2011, it was also announced that Lovey and Stella were both pregnant again; which is reportedly what prompted the move. Ran II was moved first to the aquarium and spent some time alone before her parents arrived the next day.

In late 2012, Stella gave birth to her fifth calf, yet another female, later known as Rin. Unfortunately, in August of 2014, Bingo became sick and died on August 2, leaving behind all three females and no breeding males.

In December of 2015, Ran II was moved back to Kamogawa Sea World in exchange for her nephew, Earth, who was moved to the Port of Nagoya Aquarium. This move was done in an effort to “stabilize breeding” between the facilities.

Today, Ran II is 9 years old and now resides at Kamogawa Sea World with her sisters, Lovey and Lara, as well as her niece, Luna.

On February 8, 2001, Icelandic female Stella gave birth to her second calf, a female named Lara sired by the Icelandic male Bingo.

Lara has been present at the births of 2 of her younger sisters, Sarah and Ran II, and was also present at the birth of her nephew Earth, as well as her niece, Luna.

In 2011, Stella, Bingo, and Ran II were all transferred to the Port of Nagoya Aquarium, leaving behind Lara, Oscar, Lovey, Earth, and Luna. Unfortunately, Oscar died the following year, leaving Kamogawa with no breeding males. Though it is believed that Lara is currently being trained for Artificial Insemination.

Today, Lara is 14 years old and still resides at Kamogawa Sea World, but she has yet to have a calf of her own.

On January 11, 1998, the Icelandic female Stella gave birth to her first calf, a female named Lovey sired by the Icelandic male Bingo.

Lovey was the very first successful captive born Orca in Japan, and has witnessed the successful births of 3 of her younger sisters; Lara, Sarah, and Ran II.

On October 13, 2008, Lovey gave birth to her own calf, a male later named Earth sired by the Icelandic male Oscar. Lovey turned out to be a very good mother, as she was kept with Stella and was able to learn necessary mothering skills.

In December of 2011, Stella was moved to the Port of Nagoya Aquarium, leaving Lovey and her calves behind at Kamogawa. Lovey took over the role as dominant female and went on to give birth to her second calf on July 19, 2012; a female named Luna who was also sired by Oscar.

Unfortunately, Oscar died in December 2012, leaving Kamogawa with no breeding males. As a result, Lovey has reportedly began training for Artificial Insemination.

Today, Lovey is 17 years old and still resides at Kamogawa Sea World.
