Things To Research As A Witch MASTERLIST

Always remember that each witch’s journey is a different one. You certainly do not have to research all of these in one go. Or all of it for that matter. Take your time and explore the possibilities of witchcraft, even if it’s one subject at a time. Witchcraft isnt strict on rules, find what suits you, there’s a place for everyone. And remember, always keep learning! :)

I tried to organize it somewhat (not really) Im going to start a series of master lists like this one for different types of witches too! So stick around for those but for now…

I was hoping if maybe you could critique this please? This is my first sigil that I plan to use and not made bc I was bored, so I want to make sure this is alright or if there was anything I could do to fix it. If you wouldn’t mind please.

Hiya! Mod Finley here! I’d just change the wording from “I WILL be qualified” to “I AM qualified”

This makes it so the sigil knows you want results RIGHT NOW not sometime in the distant future like “will” possibly indicates. Otherwise, it looks good! If any mods or followers have any input, please add on!

Let’s talk about: Enchantments

image

Enchantments are probably one of my favorite kinds of magic to practice.  The basic idea of an enchantment is to imbue an object with a certain type of energy so that it either attracts the same energy, or repels the wrong kind of energy.  Energy work is a huge thing in my personal practice so I’ve done this a lot in a lot of different ways.

To me there are essentially two types of enchantments: Active and passive.  Active enchantments are something you’ve actively put energy and intention into, something that’s actively enchanted will have a clear purpose, such as a protection charm.  Passive enchantments are things that have been around a certain type of energy that they carry it with them, sometimes needing be recharged if it’s away from its source for a long time.

When it comes to the act of enchanting things, there’s no wrong way to do it, as with all types of witchcraft.  When I actively enchant things, it’s usually at my altar, with candles lit, and an offering made to whichever of my gods I’m asking to bless my object with their energy.  If I’m using my own energy then it’ll often be by meditating on the energy I want and passing the object through the smoke of an incense I put together to represent my intention.  An example of this is a signet ring I wear; I enchanted the ring to represent my armor and keep me protected, while also binding the symbol on it to be a sigil that I use to represent myself.  For passive enchantment, it’s not really something that can be done on purpose, for example I wear a necklace that was given to me by my fiancee over three years ago, and I’ve taken off only about 5 times since then.  Since it came to me from an act of love and has been there for almost the entirety of our relationship I know it’s absorbed that energy and has become a love talisman.

When it comes to trying to make enchantments more manly it mostly comes down to choice of object.  Enchanting a hat, a knife, or something else that you have on you the majority of the time is a good choice if you need the thing to work a lot, and enchanting a special tie or cuff links if it’s something you need at only certain times.  Ultimately all that matters is what you need and you have available, again there’s no wrong way to do it.

That finishes up my ramble on enchantments.  Practice safe and Ret'urcye mhi!

Let’s talk about: Teas/potions

image

Potions are probably one thing that almost everyone thinks of when they hear the words “witch” or “magic”, and with good reason.  For a long time witches used plants prepared properly to treat disease, which eventually became the modern practice of medicine.  Potions are a form of magic very close to science, which makes me love them, as I am a big fan of both.

These days I’m not as inclined to get willow bark when I can get aspirin easily, but I still use some potions for both their effects, and their taste.  By this of course I mean teas.  There are dozens of types of teas with more uses than I know or can possibly fit in this post (foreshadowing!) so I’ll just talk about my personal favorite tea as an example.

Almost daily I drink a green tea with a few mint leaves mixed, and a little honey if I want something sweet.  The green tea I use mainly for its metabolism boosting properties and caffeine, although I also like the energy and healing properties it has magically.  The mint is use for its calming magical properties, and sometimes for its more scientific stomach settling properties.  Finally the honey is mostly for flavor and a little protein in case the tea is my breakfast, and I’ll usually use it to draw either a sigil for peace or luck into my tea depending on what I need that day.  I much prefer to use loose leaf, but I’ll use premade tea bags if i’m in a hurry.

This is one that’s tough to really put much of a “manly” spin on, since tea is a very unisex thing to begin with, but for the naysayers:  Many warrior cultures drank tea before battles, either as a form of offering and honor as with the samurai, or to try and boost their abilities as with the viking berserkers.  If you desperately need it too be as manly as possible, leave out the honey and it’ll be about as bitter as coffee.

That finishes up my ramble on teas and potions.  Practice safe and Ret'urcye mhi!

Modern witches can be anyone

This is a fact we’ve all know for a long time.  Anyone who practices in anyway is ultimately a witch, as long as they’re comfortable with the title.  When I first started my practice I avoided calling myself a witch, since I felt it was too feminine of a title for the kind of person I am.  After some meditation and talk with other witches of the world I saw how the term is meant to be used and started my journey on the path of the masculine witch.

My journey started in college when I first discovered the Celtic gods and the druidic practices that they were associated with.  I felt an immediate connection, and after many weeks of research and soul searching I decided to become a Celtic Druid, somewhat to the dismay of my parents.  It wasn’t long after that that I was writing my first spells and crafting my first sigils.

At first I was extremely rigid in my practices; I followed spells to the letter and used formulas to write anything of my own.  While this was great for me to learn as a beginner, it ultimately left me limited in what I did with my practice.  It wasn’t until I finally broke a mold that I saw the possibilities.  The first time I did anything completely original was when I learned how to meditate while I sparred.  I had been inspired by Star Wars: Knight’s of the Old republic’s  concept of a battle meditation and did it literally as I fought.

This led me down many rabbit holes as I found my personal best way to practice.  I made my first altar at which I pray daily, I joined my first traditional martial arts school since middle school to train my body, and I started exploring the fandoms I loved for things to bring into my daily life and practice.

Today that has turned me into the person writing this blog:  I practice Celtic Druidry using Chang Quan Kung Fu for active meditation, while trying to live my life in a way that fits my Mandalorian values.  This might not be the best way for everyone to practice, but it is for me, and I hope my sharing it here will give other people the jumping off point they need.

Need a sigil for something specific? Want something written in Futhark? I am now doing commissions for $5 through Squarecash. Send me a message  containing:

  • A description of the rune/sigil you’re looking for
  • What you plan to use it for
  • Specific details on what you want to sigil to look like
  • Any symbols you want me to include

As well, here are a few ground rules:

  • No curses or revenge runes. That’s bad mojo right there.
  • As well, no specific love runes. ‘Lucky in love’ is fine, but nothing that will force someone to suddenly be attracted to you.
  • No offensive, hateful or overly threatening runes.
  • All sales are final.
  • No guarantees that the rune will actually work. How effective it is depends on how much faith you put in it.

Send me a message or an email if you’re interested.

Hi everyone as promised, here is my sigil magic 101 post! Please excuse any spelling mistakes, English is not my mother language.

First of all, what is sigil magic?

Sigil magic is part of chaos magic, which is a practice based on belief. If you believe something will work, then it will work. Chaos magic can take a little bit from other practices in order to achieve a goal. Some say it’s a result-based magic. I don’t want to make this post super long, so here is a link to the wikipedia article and here is a link to some more resources.

Now, what are sigils?

A sigil is a symbol created to achieve a goal. This symbol is just a representation of your intention and it’s created in order to achieve it.

I have received some messages asking if they are safe to use, and yes, they are absolutely safe! I know they might look mysterious and complex sometimes, but don’t worry, they are nothing more than just a graphical representation of something that you want.

How to make a sigil?

There are multiple ways! Chaos magic is all about using whatever you feel it’s rigth in order to achieve your goal, so there are no strict rules about the way you should create a sigil. I’m going to share with you some links.

  • My personal method / basic method - I use a little bit of everything I’ve learned. I write out the intention, remove the vowels and duplicated letters and then create a desing with the remaining letters. As I explain in my post, I also like to use runes related to my intetion.

(In that post I talk about something I called “catalyst sigil”. This is just a random name I gave to it but it’s not my idea, after a lot of research I finally found the original source! it’s a “robofish sigil”, created by Gordon White. Here you can read about it.)

  • Using a sigil wheel - Here is a super useful tutorial by strangesigils. I think this method is easier than the writing the intention and removing the vowels one, but I don’t use it because I feel it limitates my creativity. However, it’s a good method to start!
  • Using planetary magic squares- This one is kinda similar to the wheel one, but a bit more complex. It focuses on using planetary energies related to your intention. I don’t use it for the same reason as the last one, but it’s definitely a good option if you’re trying something different!

Useful tips

  • Always write your intention in present, as you want it to manifest. Use affirmations and positive words. Instead of using phrases like “I’m not sick” use “I’m healthy and full of energy”. Sigils work best when you use positive words.
  • Userunes! As I said in my post with my personal method, you can add a rune related to your intention in your sigil design, I always use runes. Here you can find runes with their meanings and correspondences.
  • Drop the letters you can’t fit on your design. Don’t worry, you don’t need to use them all if you don’t want. You can also replace that letter you can’t fit with a rune, or just go and useThe Elementarium by VioletWitchcraft, a beautiful and magical alphabet.
  • Enjoy it! have fun creating your sigil, burn some incense, listen to your favorite music, surround yourself with crystals or plants… just get in the mood to get witchy! It’s your magic, you can do whatever you want! You’re free!

Charging sigils

Okay, now your sigil is ready, or maybe you’re going to use one someone created for you, the next step is the charging process. Again, there are no rules, there’s not a wrong way to charge them.

Inthis post you can find some tips about charging sigils. Some of the most common methods are:

  • Meditate with it
  • Draw it on a piece of paper and burn it or soak it in water until it dissipates.
  • Leave it under the sunlight, or under moonlight.
  • Use a couple of drops of blood (just be very very careful)
  • Trace it with a crystal, or trace it with some incense and then burn the incense.
  • Draw it on your skin and dance or work out, or just go with your daily routine.
  • Draw it on a clothing/jewerly item and wear it.
  • Have it on your phone while you are charging the battery.
  • Put it on a jar spell.
  • Put it on your garden.
  • Draw it with something edible (chocolate syrup? yum!) and eat it.

Seriously, the options are endless! I think they can also get energy just by being posted here on tumblr, where lots of people see them, like them and reblog them.

You can charge them in any way you feel it’s right for yor sigil and your intention, the most important thing here is to believe it will work. Belief is the most important tool in chaos magic.

And that’s it, once your sigil is activated it will start working towards your goal. Sigil magic is one of the easiest ways to get into witchcraft and start manifestating good things in your life!

theredribbon:

To charge and activate sigils trace them with a crystal point. You can use clear quartz for anything but if you want to get specific you can use Tigers Eye to activate and charge a protection sigil or use your own correspondences.

Can anyone help a baby witch out with how to figure out a solution for something nasty? I don’t know what it is per-say (I’ve tried to get answers but meh) all I know for sure is it’s annoying as fuck and I’m TIRED of it.

I know I’m mostly able to put up warding when I’m feeling strong enough energetically.

Problems I run into: It gets worse/angrier when offensive is used, and it LOVES preying on energetic vulnerability.

I’m asking now because I’m a bit energetically spent. The other day I just put up some really taxing wards for protection because I knew me and my confidante (witchy partner) would be emotionally and energetically vulnerable and I wanted to ward off basically everything. (This place is very active with just like, nature and other types of things)

The good news? It worked FANTASTICALLY for the duration I needed it to. The bad news? I didn’t manage to design them to last and since I’m fairly drained they’re sort of getting weak which means ol’ nasty is a tap-tap-tapping on them.

If Anyone has any advice or good references I could look up, that would be fantastic. Thank you!

@positivehappenstance

So I very rarely reblog anything, but you seem to need a helping hand and that’s really what my blog is about.

So first things first: What are we working with?

To me, this sounds like it could be a number of things but there are a few things that are more likely that others, for the same reason that a person with a cough is more likely to have a cold than diphtheria; colds are just way more common.

  1. A Predatory Natural Spirit:
In the same way that a wild animal can be a predator, so can a spirit, and like all predators this means it needs to feed on prey. However, unlike a creature made of matter (such as a wolf or a human), it doesn’t eat the body of its prey but rather eats its energy. This doesn’t make it evil or malicious, so I would strongly advise against calling it as such: it’s just a predator, and like any living creature it needs to eat. It just happens to need to eat, basically, you.

  2. A Malicious Human Spirit:
Now I work mostly with natural spirits but I have known many, many people who work with human spirits and so I would consider myself at least fairly knowledgeable of them, if not actually any good at working with them.Unlike natural spirits a human spirit CAN be malicious, usually as a result of being lost and scared and angry, and so it lashes out in any way it can which often means humans living in the area have their psyches and spirits injured. This can often cause a lot more than just fatigue and mental lethargy, but can actually result in illness and disease as your body’s vital energy is drained and it becomes less able to defend and repair itself against more physical problems like bacteria and lacerations.

  3. A Psychic or Energy Vampire:
These are essentially human beings who either knowingly or subconsciously are probing out into people’s spirits and stealing energy from them to feed themselves. They are not true “vampires” in the sense of an actual physiological need to do this in order to function, but instead are using this feeding as a means of boosting themselves and increasing their own strength. Again many (and I would argue most) psychic vampires don’t realise what they’re doing, but are often confused with just major extroverts because like extroverts they seem to become energised by having people around them. Unlike extroverts however, being in the presence of a psychic vampire will drain you of energy, mental acuity, and other faculties quite quickly.

There are a few other things it could be, but these are by far the most likely so we’ll start with these. If that doesn’t work, feel free to ask me!

Which is probably the cause? How can I stop it?

In my experience, it’s almost certainlya predatory natural spirit. They’re by far the most common, and thankfully also the easiest to deal with. In this case, stopping the problem is really as simple as purging the area of spirits and then keeping up barriers to stop more coming back to fill the gap. At the moment what you’re doing is essentially holding up a shield to stop the spirit from getting to you, but that’s an active process which means it uses a lot of energy and concentration. When you’re unable to actively hold up shields, such as when you’re asleep or fatigued, the spirit is able to freely attack you and slowly drain you of energy, and because you’re never pushing the spirit away from yourself even after you start defending yourself again it’ll just hang around outside your shields until you get too tired to keep them up again.

So, the best way to purge an area of natural spirits is to use banishing and exorcising herbs in all the areas where you’re usually affected (spirits tend to be tied to a specific place rather than following a person around), and then placing sigils at strategic points around the exorcised area to create a barrier that the spirits cannot cross to get back to you. The best herbs to use for banishing spirits from an area are sage, rosemary, agrimony, lavender, and angelica, but honestly starting off with just the most accessible to you is fine. I’d recommend taking a combination of dried sage leaves and dried rosemary leaves, and burning them in a pot (or using sage and rosemary incenses) before carrying the burning herbs/incense around your home in all the places that are affected by the spirits (so, all of it).

If for some reason you can’t have an open flame, as I know some places don’t allow this, then you can instead mix sage and rosemary with water and salt in a large sealed bottle, and then leave it to sit for at least three days in a place out of direct sunlight. Then take the water from inside the bottle (leave the herbs) and using a brush “paint” the water across the lintel of all the doors and windows in your home that face the outside (so an inside door that just opens from one room to another would be ignored). There are more of these simple water spells on my blog.

After that, you’ll want to go to the most southerly, easterly, westerly and northerly points in your house (which is almost always the four corners of your home), and draw warding sigils on either the floor, walls or ceiling at that point to stop spirits from crossing the invisible lines they draw between each other. If you live in a house with space to do this, you could also go outside your house and bury four small stakes into the ground (you can bury them completely, that’s fine) that have the sigils drawn, burnt or carved into them. If you’d like to make your own warding sigils I have a post on learning the basics of sigil magick here on my blog, but if you don’t mind using a sigil someone else has already made then there’s one right here that I made last year!

How do I stop this in the future?

Well, first off, like most novices you probably made the simple and easily made mistake that we’ve ALL made at some point or another: you didn’t cast a circle when you performed spells or messed around with energy work. A spell is basically a big ol’ beacon of power and energy into the universe, and if you don’t shield that, if you don’t protect that, then you’re going to attract predators who want to feed on that energy. It’s a common mistake, and simple enough to prevent by casting a circle before you do any spells or workings in the future!

If you don’t know how to cast a circle, surprise surprise I’ve got a how-to on my blog. However, bear in mind that a circle doesn’t have to be physical, and it should be large enough for you to NOT STEP OUT OF IT as you perform your spell. If at any point you leave the circle during your spell, the FIRST THING you must do when you go to restart the spell is redraw the magick of the circle. If you’re using a physical circle as a focus to help the magick the physical circle doesn’t have to be redrawn, but the energy must be recast.

—————————-

I hope that helps you dear! We’ve all been novice Witches before and you’ll learn fast, so I hope this helps you and answers your question!

For my regular followers, if you’d like to read this again in the future, I’m tagging this post with “spirits”, “spirit exorcism”, and “common mistakes”.

Amplified Reversal

Someone has placed a hex on me and I felt the effects(honestly it was kinda weak). It took me 3 weeks of constantly being sick, never finding a good parking spot, feeling bleh, not favoring myself, spells not working fully, and having no motivation for anything to figure it out. I did a reversal yesterday and boy do I feel 10x better today. Here’s the tik tok video I made of me doing it as well as detailed instructions!

Ingredients

  • 2 square pieces of paper(or a jar if youd like)
  • A nail
  • Some twine
  • 3 tea light candles
  • A moldy substance
  • Herbs; chili powder(for speeding up process and power boost), salt(to protect you), black pepper(to banish them and their energy), and mustard seeds(to wish them ill will)
  • A pen
  • Paper
  • A lighter
  • A crushed snail shell(represents home being crushed, uncomfortable, stressed.)

Creation

Begin by making a amplified reversal sigil and write that all over your paper. Use the 2 square pieces of paper to make origami box’s. Seal the inside with wax from your tea light candles. (You could simply use a jar)

During this process chant “ you sent it to me I send it back x3”

Tie 3 knots into your twine thinking of their energy and the misfortune they brought you. Imagine yourself catching that energy in the twine. Lay the twine in the box and cover with wax from tea lights. Stab the nail into the twine hurting them the way they hurt you. Cover the inside of box with the herbs. Burn your paper with intention and add it to the box as well as the molded substance. You’re done!

Unique sigil making technique

We have all seen the normal ways of making a sigil by taking out the repeated letters and vowels. I never connected with that so it lessened the impact of it. Here’s how I make my sigils:

Creation

Choose your intent and what is the first thing that comes to your mind?

For example; sleep well uninterrupted

When I think of that I think of the moon and protecting my sleep. I think of a crescent so I would start with this;

Then I would remove the basic shapes(how I personally would) and combine those;

Then I would like to draw a line through, and something to represent uninterrupted(or protection of my sleep aka the moons). I also like to add an arrow(to bring to me) at the bottom of some sigils;

And I have my sigil! Here are some other ways this same intent can be drawn;

I find I connect better when I use my way of thinking and pictures I come up with rather than the repeated letters and vowel removal. This is just one example. Sometimes for a quick happiness sigil I’ll draw a smiley face Bc I connect with that!

Good luck
