Sometimes it’s nice to just sit on the front porch swing and just sit there and sit and think of nothing as you just sit there and swing in the swing on the front porch thinking of nothing…

Yes, very nice and peaceful sitting there in the swing swaying gently back and forth and not having to think about anything because it’s just so peaceful sitting there not having to think as you just sit and not think and sway gently not thinking in the swing on the porch.

So pleasant to just relax and let your mind rest as you sway gently in the swing on the porch not thinking about anything not having to think just swing s l o w l y and gen t l y as you swing and sway just sitting on the swing on the porch not thinking not needing to think at all as you swing gently on the swing on the porch slowly not thinking and not thinking as you slowly swing.

So relaxing as you just don’t need to think only gently swaying of the swing as you sit swinging slowly swaying and not needing to think at all as you just sit swinging slowly on the front porch swing…

The Pearls gleam in her earlobes…the Bun quivered and slowly grows larger…and the Pearlyhose is On…

“I guess…I guess it started not long after we moved here… I was bored and was hanging out in the Mall when that Lady came up to me. I thought she was gonna chew me out like everyone else did – ‘cause I was totally Goth then. You know. I don’t even think I owned anything that wasn’t black…

Anyhow. she just…well, she just smiled at me and gave me my first Pearl bracelet. She said it would suit me and that I would understand. I was gonna tell her to Fu..uh go away, but somehow the Pearl bracelet ended up on my wrist. Don’t really remember how.

And it was like…I dunno…like some sort of fog lifted. Like for the first time I could see, and everything was sunny and warm.  And nice. And I decided right then and there that I needed to make a change.

So I did.

Now I always dress like a proper young Lady should. And I’m always volunteering: helping out in the community. Everyone is so proud of me. And I feel so happy. Happier than I’ve ever been.

And I was even given a second Pearl bracelet…”

“Go Stepford!!”

She danced. She chanted. She cheered. Cheered for the Sports Team.

She felt, to tell the truth. a bit ridiculous doing it. Wearing that pink leotard and little pink tutu. And with that silly pink bow in her hair.

Here she is an adult. a grown woman. Prancing around in front of everyone (it seemed like the whole town was there) dressed…

like that.

But there she was, a big smile plastered on her face as she cheered the team on.

Because…

Because it was expected of her.

She wore the outfit because that was the outfit she was given.

And she did not want to disappoint.

She COULD not disappoint.

It was hard to explain. She didn’t really understand or believe it herself but she felt…

Like it was something she needed to do.

To fit in.

To Belong.

And if she felt humiliated wearing that silly Pink outfit in front of everybody…well…it was, as if she deserved it somehow. Because it shows she understands.

Her place.

It was all so simple really…
all her worries and cares just don’t matter anymore
In fact, she realized, they never were important in the first place….
She realized that now.
Sitting in the chair, at the Salon…
the gentle fingers working, swirling, twisting shaping
her hair

After a few weeks at the Stepford Education Centre, she realized the error of her ways. She remembers now that it is important to fit in, be proper and ladylike at all times and in every activity. She will make her Community proud; she will be poised, polished and Feminine as an upstanding resident of Stepford.

It is, of course, important to begin your day the proper way. Hair and makeup just so, and the proper foundation for your daily wardrobe.  Running a household is hard work, important work, and yet, being Feminine and proper while you do so, is just as important.

She is so grateful to have learned this important lesson. That all the other Ladies in the Community took so much time and effort to teach her. To make her feel welcome. To insure that she fits in. To make sure she Understands. How silly she was, being only concerned with her own selfishness. Her career. The trappings of success. Those are lonely and fleeting.

Being a part of something bigger than just herself, part of a Community. Caring and nurturing others and being nurtured in return…that is what is Important.  That is what she has always craved. That is what she has always needed.  Even when consciously she resisted or did not believe, deep down she always knew.
