This card is in many ways the mascot of the deck! It is the first card that Nisse Lovendahl and I collaborated on when I was deciding what I was trying to do with the culinary tarot. This card challenges you to push your comfort zones and let the chips fall as they may.
Are you addicted to control and stability? The Picky Eater comes around when you are resistant to the change and adventure that is at their fingertips, trying to stick to the familiar and reliable instead of moving with the flow. The universe wants you to upend your entrenched patterns. Something unexpected and delicious is on the other side of letting go—put down the bowl of buttered noodles and get ready for broader horizons.
The Picky Eater also symbolizes changing fortunes and situations. Although these transformations are often for the better, there is no shame in taking comfort in the little things (or foods) that are habitual. You can love your basic peanut butter sandwich and still know that there is an exotic feast on your menu in the future. Trust the process and expect the unexpected.
Food: Try something exciting that you have always been intimidated by. If you are an omnivore, maybe order that offal dish or add uni if available. If you are vegetarian, find a new way to prepare durian. Take the opportunity to expand beyond your comfort zone.
Herb: An herb that boosts your courage can be a useful addition to your repertoire at this time. Angelica is an herb whose flowers have been used to flavor fish or poultry. Its stems can also easily be thrown into marmalade or stewed rhubarb for extra flavor. Use this herb as a stepping-stone into something more adventurous.
I know I’ve been pretty inactive on the blog lately, mostly because I’m paying more attention to my Instagram…but, here’s something fun for you! Ha nope it’s not Batboys, I know you were thinking it, I KNOW IT. Kidding.
Anyway, these are the two main characters from K.D. Edwards’ Tarot Sequence series! I picked up his Last Sun a few months ago, just got the second book a couple of days ago, and I am hooked. It’s a genre-mashup fantasy-mystery-action story based on tarot Arcana that I can’t even describe and there’s tons of queer representation as well. The dialogue is what’s really drawing me, it’s HILARIOUS. Kind of reminds me of Midnighter banter, which is always a good thing!
This is the borest thing I’ve ever seen. We don’t learn anything about Portia’s personality or about their relationships with MC. We even haven’t a route - we have a tale about Volta, we have a tale about Valdemar, we have a tale about some suspisious auntie. Who is the protagonist of this route? Is it Portia? No. Is it MC? No. They both are on the background.
Hell, I don’t like Nadia’s route, but I still remember it, I remember, what happened there. And Portia’s? I don’t remember anything but Volta, Valdemar and Lucio’s “cheap candles”.
And this new chapter was disgusting, thank you, Valdemar, for not being there and not looking like a fool. It was “Look at this incredible Mary Sue we created!” chapter. Nadia looked like a fool, MC looked like a fool, Portia looked like a fool, Valerius looked like a fool, are you kidding? If you don’t want to create new chapters, if you don’t want to continue this game, just drop it! No cg, no interesting content - I have never seen such a little and such a disgruntled comments like I saw after this. And I agreed. And I pissed off.
It’s a dissapointment, alas. I doubt I will play Portia’s route more.

Someone on IG very kindly suggested me to draw him in steampunk clothes, and I thought the idea was cool, so here it is! The truth is that any style of clothing fits Julian well, but that transgressive futuristic look is too asasldfhaslksjdlñfkja for my mental health.

Sorry it took me so long to come back. My last two months schedule was way too full, and I couldn’t draw anything. But I’m more relaxed now and my tasks are well planned so I think I’ll be able to update this blog more often.

Sci-fi and fantasy are two genres that go hand-in-hand and when you add the bonus layer of them being queer literature… it’s becoming less rare but still. Finding ones to love as much as I love this book and this series?
Often I struggle with modern fantasy and science fiction because there’s a lack of world building in them. Maxwell and Edwards both found the perfect balance between creating a complex plot and bringing to life three dimensional characters. There’s romance, yes, but it’s developed in a natural way that doesn’t neglect the needed development of a fully fleshed-out system. For Winter’s Orbit, that’s a realized and complex system of planets and politics; for TTS, it’s a unique magical system and complex political positioning. Both authors understand the importance of the mix of these things to create what I view as hopefully timeless pieces of literature.
