The winner of our March Madness bracket has been decided! Not Connecticut huskies, but a man-bug thing. Close enough.

Thanks to all who submitted brackets (winning one to be announced later today) and voted to help us decide which title would be crowned champion. We hope you enjoyed following the action and that you’ve been inspired to pick up (or read again) one of these classics.

Our Book Bracket finalists prepare for battle in not dissimilar ways: one walks around Dublin hating himself, the other crawls around his house being hated. And both are ultimately transformed.

Throw your weight behind Joyce or Kafka here! The winning title—and winning submitted bracket—will be announced on Monday afternoon.

Perhaps it was too mired in ethical dilemmas—The Brothers Karamazov couldn’t squeak out the win it needed for advancement into the Book Bracket semifinals. Our first contender for the gold and glory has been chosen, and he’s going to write a villanelle to celebrate!

Congrats to Stephen Dedalus, who will be up against either Gregor Samsa the human beetle or Lily Bart the cautionary tale. Help decide which author battles Joyce in the semifinal of the 2014 Book Bracket by voting here.

With your help, the final match-up will be decided over the weekend and announced on Monday—keep an eye out for a voting link!

The Cellar Gym’s Checkmat MinneapolisBJJ team brought an amazing game to the 2015 Submission Hunt Championships! In total, the Cellar brought home six Gold, six Silver, and four Bronze medals. Our highlights and wins:

  • Michelle Donovan worked hard to healthfully cut over 15 pounds in order to compete in the 120-135 division, where she showed a beautifully impressive performance of technique and calculated aggression. She tied for 1st (with teammate Kaitlin Youwer) in her gi white belt division, took 3rd in the gi blue belt division, and 2nd in the gi white belt open weight division, losing only to a very strong and much heavier opponent. Go Michelle! :)
  • Kaitlin Youwer, despite being relatively new to BJJ, rocked the mats with a dominant display. She took 1st in her no-gi division, 3rd in no-gi open division, 1st in the gi blue belt division (!), and tied for 1st in the gi white belt division with Michelle.
  • Evie Enderle took 2nd in her gi white belt division, giving an exceptionally strong and aggressive opponent a spectacular run for her money. Way to represent, Evie!
  • Shuyeng Vang took 1st in his gi white belt division and 2nd in his no-gi division.
  • Kevin Skadsheim took 1st in his gi blue belt division.
  • Damon Leahy took 1st in his gi white belt division and 2nd in his no-gi division.
  • Scott Masterton took 3rd in his gi purple belt division.
  • Pete Donlin took 3rd in his gi blue belt division.

Big congratulations to everyone! It was a great time seeing my teammates kick ass so hard - looking forward to healing up all the way so I can compete this spring. Thank you to coaches Mayko Araujo and Karen Antunes for running such an amazing team and for encouraging us to work harder every day!

No region restriction on Digimon tournaments in Hacker’s Memory, user titles mistranslated

With the international launch of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory on PlayStation 4 and Vita over January 19th, the English-speaking world has been brought into the fold of the ongoing Adult Digimon tournament that began in Japan earlier this month.

The revelation comes as a surprise to some, as the most recent tournament has been themed around Japanese New Year’s. In light of the culturally-specific Kagami Mochi accessories being the primary multiplayer reward, and the event itself already being several days in-progress, up to now it was not unthinkable that English-speaking territories would have their own separate track of events.

This news may be for the best; while a handful of player titles and accessories remain Japan-exclusive for the time being due to the earlier launch of Hacker’s Memory in Asia, in the long term all of these will become available to all players regardless of their language or country of origin. A list of the current Japan exclusives can be found beneath the cut.

Digimon Christmas tournament ends in Japan, Nokia avatar added for Omegamon-themed event

At noon January 1st, 2018, the first event battle for Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory came to a close. Titled “Vaccine-type & Light-attribute Special Tournament” the theme of the event was using Vaccine-Light Digimon like Holydramon and Sleipmon. To commemorate the holiday season, the unique rewards available included three different colors of Santa hats, and three colors of present box, any of which players could use to decorate their Digimon for the season. Digimon tamers battled against one another to for coins, then redeemed them in the online shop for the digital accessories.

The second event battle is “A New Year! Happy Omegamon Tournament” (新年!あけオメガモン大会) with the theme for both the tournament and the item shop being New Year’s celebrations. The Santa hats in the coin shop have been replaced by three colors of kagami mochi, a traditional New Years decoration consisting of three layers of mochi rice cakes topped by a bitter orange
