More often than not, there’s often a popular opinion on how certain things (in witchcraft) should be carried out in order to be deemed “effective.” That being said, remember this: it’s okay to do your own thing. If it feels right, do it. Magic comes from within you and should, therefore, be unique to you. Don’t let other people’s opinions dominate or steer your craft.

My most effective spells have been the ones where I just grab items and let my intuition guide me. Maybe half of what I did would have been considered ineffective and I may have had better items to use but intuition and intent are your strongest spell ingredients.

How to make a Scrying “crystal ball”

What you will need:

  • A small fish bowl type glass bowl. As round as you can find

Example :

image

  • Black paint (may need to use glass paint)
  • Paint brush
  • A base (optional)

With your black paint. Paint the inside of your glass until you can no longer see through it. It may take a few coats. Let fully dry.

Once dry flip over so that the opening is on the bottom. You can then attach it to a wooden or stone base with glue or just leave it.

Use the dark reflective surface to scry. Don’t know how? This video may be helpful

If you try this let me know how it works out!

They have bowls like this at the Dollar Tree

This is a great idea!

And when you seal it to whatever you want to use, you can place crystals in it! :D Crystal balls are expensive, but a couple divination crystals about the size of your thumb could go in there for an added boost! ^_^

Want to get rid of acne? After washing your face with a gentle soap and water, rub a small amount of tea tree oil over the area in a counter-clockwise motion. Tea tree oil is a cleansing oil(both physically and metaphysically), and also has witchy correspondences with purification. As well, counter-clockwise movements correspond with(among other things) decreasing(in this case, decreasing acne). Also if you tend to have dry skin, make sure to put a bit of moisturizer on afterwards as well!

((Fun fact: Tea tree oil also has correspondences with strength and harmony))

Be careful if your tea tree oil is a pure essential oil, especially if you have sensitive skin, as essential oils can irritate. You may wish to dilute it in coconut oil (super duper good for your skin and also has magical correspondences of purification) first in order to avoid potentially irritating your skin.

Also, to make it more effective, charge your oil with healing energy or say a spell while you are applying it to your face.

Draw good health sigils on your medication bottles and/or pill dividers. Just be careful not to draw over important medical information. As always, keep your intent focused on a good outcome resulting from taking those medications while drawing the sigils.

Ok, so I get a lot of shit for calling low level spells weaker or low level, so here’s a guide to actually crafting powerful spells.

What you need to know right off the bat is that you’re layering powers on each other, and if you draw on more powers, you generally get better results. Now, there is some level of balance to this, as doing too much can muddle the intent of your spell, but the “too much” threshold is going to be something you learn to use intuition to find for yourself.

So, let’s begin! Here are components of your spells to layer on top of each other

  • The most basic, your ingredients: what are the correspondences of your oils, waters, herbs, candles, and stones?
  • The time you do it: what day are you doing it? What phase is the moon in? Where are the planets? What day of the week are you doing it?
  • Location: Are you doing it in the woods? Near a river? Can the light of the moon touch you? What cardinal direction are you facing?
  • Visualization: While I don’t believe intent alone is the driving force behind all magical works, that doesn’t mean mental pursuits during your spell work are worthless. Visualization can be an incredibly powerful layer in your spells. What does the magic you’re controlling look like? What is it doing?
  • Who you call on: Will you petition deities, spirits, ancestors, or fae for power? How will you do this?
  • Symbols: What shapes are your stones? Did you use runes or alchemical symbols? Did you make a sigil? How are your symbols incorporated into the spell?
  • Energy: Where are you getting the power for the spell? Yourself? The earth? A charged crystal? The spirits you petitioned?
  • Repetition: How many times has this spell or ritual been done before? An old spell has a lot of power behind it due to the sheer amount of times it has been used. Additionally, how many times do you perform an action or speak an incantation in the spell?
  • Incantation: what are you saying? Are you speaking to an entity or the earth itself? What language is the incantation in? Is the language related to who or what you’re petitioning or is it just the language it was first written in?
  • Numbers: How many ingredients are you using? How many times will you perform an action? How many crystals/flowers/spoonfuls/candles/etc will you use? Numbers have correspondences.
  • Colors: Colors have correspondences too. What color is your candle? Your ink?
  • Tools: What tools are you using? How have those tools been powered or charmed? What have you used them for previously? How old are they? What energies power them?
  • Traditions: What traditions are you using? Where did the correspondences you use come from? If you’re mixing traditions, do those traditions mix well? I do some amount of brauchery, and it doesn’t play well with other traditions.
  • Order: What order do you do things in your spell? Which way do you stir? Do you petition spirits before the spell or during it?
  • And finally: intent and will. Yes, I’m not a fan of this stuff because tumblr sees it as the end all, be all. However, your intent will guide the way the spell goes, and your willpower is going to get you through anything tricky. YOU have to have the power and knowledge to make the spell work. If you’re in a place that is specifically yours (like your house) you have sovereignty and your willpower will decide whether or not entities in the area respect that sovereignty. I could talk for a long time on this but I won’t because this passage isn’t the whole point of the post

To conclude:

Hopefully this illustrates why a cup of tea isn’t the greatest spell when it only includes ingredients and maybe some intent. I know I probably didn’t get every component you can add to a spell, but hopefully I got most of it.

Hope this helps someone out there!

DoNOT cast spells for positive effects that involve:

  • Burning a picture of yourself*
  • Burning a piece of paper that anywhere contains your name*
  • Burning a piece of hair or other taglock*

*Unless you really know what you’re doing

I don’t know how sigil culture got people to think that burning anything = sending it off for spirits, but NO. Across pretty much every magical practice, burning involving a person = destruction. Burning as a means of generically sending things off is mainly used for offerings.

On a similar vein, do not cast spells for positive effects that involve taking a human figure and ripping up, burning, submerging in soil or water, or doing anything else to that figure that would maim or kill a real human. (unless you really know what you’re doing)

Remember the Law of Similarity. Destruction of an image = destruction of the thing itself.

I’ve left a group over this one. Though it was drowning not burning. To get rid of negativity in the group, we were supposed to make poppets of ourselves and then make a paper boat and put the poppets in the river. Where the river would carry them away as they sank. And drowned.

I said no. This refusal created more negativity. Okay, I may have also said something like “I don’t know what Ophelia shit you’re up to here, but I’m not doing the spell.”  Which probably caused more negativity because the reference was probably went over some heads. But…

You do not create representations of yourself and destroy them. If anyone who thinks they should teach witchcraft or lead a group tries to get you to do that, you have every right to leave. Or to severely question what they think they’re up to.

(Need to get rid of negativity or excess energy? Get a good size rock. Not a fancy crystal, just a hunk of basic rock. Hold the rock and let your energy flow into it. Then put the rock outside on the ground and the energy will flow into the earth. This transfers the energy without destroying anything. I know witches who have a specific rock just for this purpose.)

I can’t believe they wanted you to make a poppet of yourself and sink it. Besides the environmental impact, based on what materials used put in the river, this feels more like a curse than a remove negativity spell. Did the person who put the spell together want yall to be miserable together, stuck in a river? What happens when the river floods…. I love the Ophelia comment because definitely that feel.

I like the rock idea, I’ve done this with negativity, with harmful spirits too. If you really want it gone gone for good, that’s when you throw that rock in the river that contains your negative energy, etc.

New witches, if you do not curse personally remember to research into what cursing holds! This is exactly why.

You can definitely make poppets of yourself for positivity but you should never EVER destroy or harm those poppets unless you have already removed all connections to you from them - or else you are essentially unintentionally setting up yourself for the possibility of allowing some very negative unexpect outcomes to rear their heads into your life.

Remember the aspects of cursing and what different steps in cursing means to avoid doing that to yourself.

Actions to avoid doing to yourself or a poppet of you (this includes anything with your name or photo or other taglock unless you are doing very specific spirit work contracts but that is a whole different thing):

1. Burning: burning brings not only destruction it is often done to poppets and items of people to represent anger, hateful energy, bringing complete chaos and ruining good things that they have. In cursing you burn poppets of others as one of the more severe types of curses and often to get very large outcomes.

2. Submerging in Water: as discussed above this represents drowning which isn’t literal in most cases but often represents anxieties, sinking emotions, flooding or drowning someone with negative emotions or misery, losing control of one’s life and paranoia. Drowning is usually connected to extreme punishment connected to another’s emotions and their own self-views.

3. Burying: burying a poppet represents caging, confining, repressing and smothering them. It can also be used to ‘bury a person away’ or toss them out of your life. Doing this to something strongly connected to you outside of a properly made witch’s jar or well researched ritual is not only environmentally bad if its not made out of safe materials but can repress yourself from achieving goals, reaching milestones or succeeding in things you do such as trying to improve upon something.

4. Cutting/Slicing: never cut or slice a poppet meant to represent yourself! This represents pain, bringing old wounds to the surface and suffering. I’ve seen way too many younger communities try to say cutting up something with your face or name on it is letting go - it can be but not in this context. Cutting things like strings, ribbons, tangled up knots, etc is much safer and proper without risk of the above.

5. Tying, Knotting, Hanging: using thread, ribbon or anything else to bind up a poppet or photo even if its in a pretty bow is the same actions done as in binding spells - which are meant to restrict and immobilize others. Make sure you do not hang your poppet especially not by the neck or limbs for this can also represent suffocation (usually not literally but emotionally or socially) and removing someone’s ability to protect themselves and making the vulnerable.

Remember intent only goes so far! You can put as much intent as you want into things but that doesn’t always ensure that they will happen - do your research! Research what correspondences are to everything you use, make sure any actions you are using are not going to counteract with the spell or worse possibly ruin the whole spell and make sure you are well researched in self poppet and taglock work!

Note: all craft is different, everyone walks their own path, just research before you try to tackle things that may go against what you are trying to do. As said intent only goes so far. If you are certain that you have a safe method for anything above and have done it before thats great! this is intended for witches who are new, finding their footing and may not realize how to properly protect themselves or master their craft yet. All craft is valid! We just want to make sure people do it safely and know the basics before they jump into things they aren’t prepared for

This addition is great. ^

Spider Web Spells

To Catch Someone’s Eye:

  • Red or Pink Candle
  • Spider Web
  • Sugar or Honey

Carve the name of the person into the candle. Roll the candle in the web. Nestle the candle in sugar or honey and light it while thinking about them and the good things you see in them.

(Note: this is NOT a love spell. This will only open their eyes to you. It won’t make them fall in love with you. It will not take away their choice or free will. Think of it like someone offering you a dessert that you didn’t know was available. The dessert was there all along and if you want it you can accept it. If you don’t want it, you’re still able to decline it, the choice is yours. I do not condone love spells that take away a person’s own choices or thoughts.)

To Attract Luck or Fortune:

  • Cinnamon (ground or stick)
  • Nutmeg
  • Pine Needle (or three drops of pine oil)
  • A Bay Leaf
  • A penny
  • Spider Web
  • Green Candle
  • Jar or Satchel
  • Old Purse or Wallet

Gather cinnamon (ground or stick), nutmeg, pine needle (pine oil works too) , a bay leaf and a penny. Wrap all of these in spider web. It doesn’t have to completely cover it. If you’re using a jar, put everything in the jar, close the lid and melt the candle wax over top. If you’re using a satchel, melt some of the wax over your bundle before placing it in the satchel. Place the jar or satchel in an old purse or wallet for monetary fortune. Carry the jar or satchel with you for an extra boost of good luck.

To Keep Someone Away From You:

  • Pen
  • Paper (small scrap)
  • Spider Web

Write the person’s name on the paper and roll it in the web. Cut the bundle in half and burn each half separately.

(Note: This spell is meant to help bind the energy between you and the person and sever ties. Be completely sure you want to cut this person from your life before you do this spell.)

Spider web is also a great addition to a number of different spells to bind energy/intent or to even help target the focus of your spell.

Please use caution when adding spider web to hexes and curses. Not only will it bind and focus, but it will also magnify it and make it harder to get rid of, because webs are sticky and hard to get out of.

Snow is fascinating, and to us in our centrally heated homes it is usually beautiful, and at worst a nuisance. However, not so very long ago humans were less protected from the elements, and snow could be both exquisite and terrible. The Snow Queen epitomizes forces that are part of the natural order and yet may be inimical to humans. It is tempting to demonize these energies, but they demand our respect.

image

The following story shows how a fascination for the Snow Queen brought out the worst in one boy, and how a girl brought him back to warmth and humanity.

A boy called Kay and a girl called Greda had lived next door to each other since they were tiny. They were firm friends and played together always. In the summer they made daisy chains and frolicked in the wood, and in the winter they watched the snow fly from inside their warm cottages. Kay thought the snow looked like white bees, and believed there must be a Queen Bee. One day, during a blizzard, he stood outside his door and an enormous snowflake landed on his hand. It turned into a tiny, beautiful woman, who then grew until she was taller than he was. She worse white furs, her face was pale as the moon, and her eyes were ice-blue. She smiled at him, touched his heart with a cold, cold hand, and vanished.

After this Kay was not the same. He teased Greda, trampled on the flowers and kicked the farm animals. Spring came, and then summer, and Greda did not recognize the boy with whom she had once been so happy. When winter returned, Kay seemed preoccupied. He scanned the northern skies, looking for snow, and made himself a sturdy sledge.Eventually the snow came and Kay went to the market square. There he caught hold of a pearly carriage on which traveled a tall woman, wrapped in white fur, and he was never seen again.

Greda was heartbroken. She questioned all the boys, but no one could help her. She even asked the animals and plants (for Greda was a wise young woman, who knew the language of wild things), but even they could give her little guidance. At length she realized she would have to leave home and head for the frozen wastes of the North, if she were to have any hope of seeing Kay again. Brave Greda went on a long and perilous journey, facing dangerous animals and murderous robbers, for her heart was full of love for Kay, even though he had been cruel to her, and she could not bear to think of him alone and cold.

Kay,of course, was in the palace of the Snow Queen, for it was she who had appeared to him in the snowflake, and who had whisked him away in the market square. He was blue with cold, and every time the Snow Queen kissed him, he went bluer. The Snow Queen’s palace was made of drifting snow, hall upon empty hall stretching for miles, lit by the cold fire of the Northern Lights. Kay was making a jigsaw of lumps of ice, which made perfect sense to him at the time. It seem very important to get the ice to fit together, and Kay, who was clever, was determined to succeed.

The Snow Queen left her throne of ice and, telling Kay she must fly to bring snow to southern places, departed in a chilling swirl. Soon afterward Greda found the palace and Kay inside it. With tears of joy, she ran to him and embraced him. Her tears warmed his frozen skin and melted his heart, so that he could see there was no sense to his jigsaw of ice pieces. Both the children were happier than they had ever been, and fled the Snow Queen’s palace together, never to return.

❄️ What The Story Means ❄️

Snow may represent the coldness of the logical mind, which seeks to control everything and put everything into a place, like the ice jigsaw, even if there is no point in this. Like the Snow Queen, this can seem a beautiful idea at first, even though it is in effect barren. The Snow Queen brings death to the heart.

And yet there is dazzling beauty in the snow. It is for humans to marvel at, but not get absorbed in, The minds and purposes of fairies are alien to mortals-small wonder that the price of entering the Snow Queen’s palace may be to lose your human heart,

Every mermaid knows, as she gazed into her mirror, that beauty is in the eye of the one beheld! If you believe that you are beautiful, there is no doubt that most people will be charmed by you.

image

Method:

For this spell you will need a mirror- preferably a pretty one, with a handle. You will also need some spring water; some dried rose petals; some seaweed (which can be obtained in good health-food stores,or gather your own); a rose-pink candle; your favorite romantic CD (preferably instrumental rather than singing);and a natural sponge.

  1. Make an infusion by filling a pan with spring water, bringing it to the boil, adding the rose petals and seaweed and then taking the pan off the heat. While the petals and seaweed are soaking, run a bath of warm water, light your candle in the bathroom, and start to play the CD, (or song on your phone, youtube or radio), to build up an atmosphere.
  2. Strain the infusion and add it to your bath. (Note: it is always a good idea to test for allergies 24 hours beforehand by placing a small amount of infusion on your inner wrist.) When the water is at the right temperature for you, get in, and close your eyes.
  3. Bring to mind your own special water fairy that you met in the previous visualization (here click here)and ask her to be near. You may feel her presence as a slight tingling, and if you are lucky, you will see her.
  4. Pick up the sponge and stroke your body all over, enjoying the sensuous experience. Tell your body it is beautiful (even if you are in the habit of thinking the opposite). Say, “From the sea came my life, from the sea came my body. Like the mermaids I am beautiful.” Mentally ask your special mermaid to fill you with confidence and joy in your own sexuality.
  5. Now pick up the mirror, look into your eyes and say, “I love you.” Say this as many times as you can, while sitting comfortably in the bath. Maybe your mermaid will whisper something encouraging in your ear.
  6. Complete the spell by thanking your mermaid and snuffing out the candle with a drop of water. As the water drains from the bath, let your consciousness return to normal. Wrap yourself in a big, soft towel and pamper yourself.
