Someone in the Black Fae Day group was looking to participate, but didn’t really have any ideas because they were more heavily into science fiction than fantasy stuff, so I offered a quote to inspire them:
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
Of course that got me thinking (partially because I wanted to remember to look up examples, and partially because the quote inspired me also and I like to experiment) and the first thing that came to me was science fiction movie costume design.
If you tweak the idea a little towards costuming, you get: “Any sufficiently fashion-forward alien race is indistinguishable from the fae.”
I like this. I’ve never seen anyone say it, but it feels right.
