Boston Kimono Weekend Day 2. We all wore yukata and actually performed on a stage at 8th Annual Boston GreenFest. It was a blast though it was raining a bit. I dressed several people with yukata as well and it was a great experience. Went to Kimono weekend day 1. The special guest was Kento Itoh who has traveled many countries in his yukata to learn and think about other cultures and environment. One of the most fun and rare opportunities of summer in Japan is the chance to wear a yukata, a light summer kimono. But how do you wear one, or make an entire look based around it? And how do you move in it too?
Machigiya is offering this incredibly retro-cool black peacock and floral yukata that just brings a smile to my face. I honestly don’t know whether i like the lime-green or the pale grey peacock obi better with it, but the lime green does add a bit more pop to a yukata that’s already in danger of popping to death.
With bright teal, blood red, at least two greens, pink, white, mustard yellow and violet dancing around on the black ground, you need to be careful with your visual balance and they’ve done it by increasing the size of the lightest color flower and leaving a vaguely diagonal strip of negative space across the whole garment (in the manner of a houmongi).
