The Bonnit
I have been seeing this rain bonnet called The Bonnit on the internet very often, and I thought I would try it out since the price is very reasonable ($10/pack). Plus I ride on my bicycle to work and when it rains, I think it will be very convenient to wear.
FYI; the package contains 2 of them, clear one and one with patterns. When I ordered them, the shipping was free if you order 2 of them, so I ordered “ Ohh Shelly ” and “ The Solanah ” . There are one more kind “ The Sylvie ”, it is also very pretty.
First attempt, I obviously didn’t know what I was doing, and looked like Darth Vader… Fail!
I put it deeper, and tied it tighter. Much better.
And then moved it a little bit backward. Hey Nozomy, it’s a bonnet, so wear as it is!!
The Bonnit is made for covering vintage hairstyles, and it tend to be big. So it felt a little too big for a normal hair day. But anyway I look forward a rainy day to wear them :)

Thenibushiki-juban can be a jacket and a skirt as well?
The size is not baggy like modern juban, so it actually fits pretty well.
Sorry to be in public without makeup…
With one of my favorite haori: I love tachibana motifs!!
I don’t think people won’t be happy about me being outside in juban, but the color ensemble is lovely. I love the color of antique kimono.
The haori is also from Hyotan-ya in Osaka.

I made nibushiki-juban from my vintage beautiful silk juban by myself.
I bought this juban from Hyotan-ya, which is an antique/vintage kimono store in Osaka (I’m sad that the store is not open right now, hopefully the owner will start his business again soon!), almost 10 years ago… !!
This is actually my first juban, but it is difficult to wear antique kimono because they are a little too small, or the fabric is worn out and if you pull the fabric too hard, it would break off.
Anyway, I didn’t wan’t to ruin it, and had kept it like a treasure for a long time. But now I’m confident enough to wear them and it is actually in a very good condition than I thought.
But the problem was, as usual, it was short. So I decided to make nibushiki-juban out of it.
I always wear nibushiki-juban, because it is easy to wear, easy to shape the emon nicely.
First, cut it in 2 pieces! Be bold and just cut it!!
It’s better to have the edge a little bit longer so you can sew it up.

I love anqitue/vintage kimono, but the size had been always an issue, but now juban, I will be able to buy anything with this technique. It is so exiting!!

After that, we went to a Chinese restaurant, House of Chang in Cambridge. I forgot to take pictures but it was very decent. They have dim sum lunch for weekends and we have to go back again!
帰りはケンブリッジにある中華屋さんでディナ、写真すっかり取り忘れましたが中々本格で美味しかったです。エビの炒め物はセロリが多すぎてちょっとあれでしたけど。

Today’s outfit, summer iromuji azuki kimono.
Actually it was the first time to wear this one, and it was shorter than I thought. It is no problem but I wore it a little bit shorter than usually I do by mistake, I prefer the bottom line about to touch on the floor.
I think I forgot to how to tie the obi, always a little bit too loose and showing the datejime!! I have to be careful with this issue.
今日の装い、夏着物小豆色無地。
実はこの着物を着るの初めてだったのですが、広げてみると思ったより短かった。それは特に問題ではないけど、いつもより短めに着付けてしまったのが。。。ちょっと残念。裾は床スレスレぐらいが好きです。帯は久しぶりに一本締め笑 兵児帯でひらひら結び。

We had a tea ceremony at Boston common today. It was very lovely to be outside, it was kind of warm today again but it was very comfortable under the shade and by the water.
Anthony is learning Japanese tea ceremony, and conducted us a very nice one. I always love the creamy fresh matcha and I have a good time with those nice people.
ボストンコモンでお茶会（ごっこ）をしました。まだ日中は暑いですが、水辺の木陰に座っていると、風が気持ちの良い午後でした。

Went to Kimono weekend day 1.
The special guest was Kento Itoh who has traveled many countries in his yukata to learn and think about other cultures and environment.
I actually didn’t really know the main event was to learn how to wear yukata, so I went there in my kimono, but had a great time with all the people who are interested in Japanese traditional clothing and culture.
着物ウィークエンドというイベントの1日目に行きました。
スペシャルゲストは伊藤研人さん、正解数十か国をお互いの文化や環境などを学ぶため、浴衣で旅をしていらっしゃいます。
実際あんまりイベントの宗旨を理解せずに参加したため、今日の目玉は浴衣の着付けレクチャーだとは知らず、きものを着て行ってしまいました。でも、沢山の人々が自国の民族衣装や文化に興味を持ってくれているというのは嬉しく、とても良い時間を過ごしました。

Today’s outfit, summer bamboo kimono which I bought in Okinawa.
Only one mistake was that I didn’t do obijime or obiage to hold the bow up on my back. I took a bus and people bumped to my obi when they get on/off the bus, and it was limply hanging on my back after a while… Good lesson.
今日の装い、夏きもの竹、沖縄で買ったものです。
帯締めか帯揚げをして後ろの結びを固定するようにすればよかったというのが唯一の後悔。バスに乗ったのですが、結構込んでいて、人が乗り降りするときに後ろに当たって、しばらくしたらダラーンとしてしまいました。沖縄では車移動が多かったので、教訓です。

Oct 29, went to Nara with my parents. I wore the ninja shoes I made in Kyoto, they are very easy to walk, light and comfortable, my husband bought a pair of black too and he loves it!! Highly recommended ;) 両親と奈良へ。正倉院展気軽に行ったのですが長蛇の列でビビりました。後はならまち探索、と思ったけど、父様は脚が痛くなってしまったらしく、途中で断念。申し訳なく思うと共に、親の年齢を想う歳になったと、切なくもありました。脚腰大事、これからも運動は続けてゆこう。 #奈良 #地下足袋 #五重塔#着物 #nara #ninja #jikatabi #kimono

Oct 27, went to Yamazaki distillery to taste some of their good whiskey. I prefer Yamazaki which is more sweeter and milder than Hakushu which is more sourer and sharper. They have a small water fall in their garden, looking at it, you’d be surprised how the water is clear and clean.
10/27、ウィスキーティスティングにサントリーの山崎蒸留所へ。さすが貯蔵所の中はもう空気がアルコールな感じで最初は息苦しかったけど、慣れるととても良い香りを感じることができました。ハイボールで山崎と白州どちらも頂いたけど、山崎の方が甘くてマイルドで、白州の酸っぱく鋭い感じよりも好きでした。分かりやすい、ケーキに入れたら美味しそう❤︎な風味の洋酒が好きです。お庭にある滝の水の綺麗さには素直に驚いた。

Oct 25, went to flee market at a shrine in Kyoto, and attempted to a work shop to make a pair of ninja shoes!!
10/25は丁度予定も合ったので、北野天満宮の市へ行きました。高校以来なのでもう何年振りでしょうか。その後は地下足袋をべんがら染で彩るというワークショプに参加、正直適当すぎて他の方の半分の時間で終了笑 シンプルが好きなんだもの。この日は半年振りにきものを召しました、が、帯を締める感覚を忘れてしまい、かなりユルユルで一日乗り切りました。
