Love beneath the trees
Thingol and Melian meet in the woods of Nan Elmoth
‘No word she spoke but being filled with love Elwë came to her and took her hand; and straightaway a spell was laid on him, so that they stood thus, hand in hand, while long years were measured by the wheeling stars above them; and the trees of Nan Elmoth grew tall and dark ere they spoke any word to one another.’
JRR Tolkien: The Silmarillion Chapter 4: Of Thingol and Melian
Beren and Luthien meet in the woods of Doriath.
Again she fled, but swift he came.
Tinuviel! Tinuviel!
He called her by her elvish name;
And there she halted listening.
One moment stood she, and a spell
His voice laid on her: Beren came,
And doom fell on Tinuviel
That in his arms lay glistening.
As Beren looked into her eyes
Within the shadows of her hair,
The trembling starlight of the skies
He saw there mirrored shimmering.
Tinuviel the elven-fair,
Immortal maiden elven-wise,
About him cast her shadowy hair
And arms like silver glimmering.
