There’s a really cool LIFE photoset of the NASA Canary Islands tracking station during the Gemini 3 mission. The Canary Islands astronaut representative for that mission was Pete Conrad, pictured here.

And his presence didn’t cause a single fight.

…Yeah. What was with that part in “Failure is Not an Option” where multiple fistfights nearly occurred over the Canary Islands tracking station? Like the one between Chris Kraft and Slayton at 3 AM in a motel?
