#yoga #love From myogalasvegas - Day 4 of #backtoschoolyoga16 with Sirsasana. Sirsasana is the first inversion with the feet off the floor Ashtanga students are taught. It’s part of the closing sequence. It’s purpose in the sequence is to continue to draw the student inward, calm the mind/body, as well as rejuvenate, and prepare one for meditation. The purpose is NOT to stimulate the sympathetic nervous system nor to deplete you. So if you find yourself being highly stimulated instead of being relaxed, try a different inversion or variation. My favorite is a dolphin variation in front of a tower of blocks to teach the engaging of the back muscles. The more I practice the more I realize it’s how the postures, sequence make you feel & support you, not what they look like that’s important.
