Possible inspiration for the 2004 “Phantom of the Opera” movie costumes

Designer Alexandra Byrne has said that instead of sketching out detailed drawings, she did concept boards for each costume. Here she gathered various photos, paintings and fabrics she wanted to incorporate into her own design. Because of this no costume design sketches were ever published - there might not be any - and it’s also hard to pinpoint THE historical source for a given dress. Sometimes it can be multiple inspirational photos transformed into one unique costume.

Apart from Christine having strong Disney vibes throughout, here’s some historical depictions I think reminds strongly of the movie costumes.
