If a boss or miniboss battle in Paper Mario does not have a cutscene with a camera change or dialogue following it, Mario will briefly assume a victory pose making a thumbs-up gesture before control is returned to the player. If the player is holding a direction on the Analog Stick when this happens, Mario still assumes the pose, but does it only for one frame.

Looking closely at the footage, you can see how Mario makes a thumbs-up gesture extremely briefly, for 33 milliseconds, so that it is very easy to miss it happening if the player does not pay close attention. Below are screenshots of three consecutive frames, left to right: the frame before the thumbs-up, the frame with the thumbs-up, the frame after the thumbs-up.
