This filter is everything, but in all seriousness, I am still exhausted. I kid people about not going into social work, but honestly it takes a certain kind of person who’s willing to face the realities of unpaid hours and sleepless nights. I stumbled into this field, and I don’t regret it, but the politics are enough at times to make a person sick. I pay for a lot of stuff out of my own pocket. I use my gas to transport clients. I worry about them when I go home. I worry even more when I’m with them. But it is worth it, when you get to see someone feel good about themselves over a successful job interview or the smile that comes with finally getting clothes that fit. I’m going back in tomorrow, even though I could probably use a few more days to hibernate. Today, I’m going thrift shopping for summer shorts and socks.
