An unidentified portrait of an older field or battalion company officer from the 5th Regiment of Foot, circa 1769-74. The 5th Foot played an important role in the American War of Independence on the North American mainland from 1775 to 1778, and then on St. Lucia in the West Indies. The artist is possibly John Trotter.
