On Tuesday, a 22-year-old former UNCC student opened fire on campus with a legally purchased handgun, killing two students and wounding four more.

According to Gun Violence Archive, the shooting at UNCC is the 104th mass shooting this year in the U.S., and according to an NBC News tracker, it is the third school shooting in 2019. But from the time of the shooting on April 30 through May 3, cable news spent less than 43 minutes covering the tragedy—and the Sunday shows did not mention the news at all. News outlets can and must do better.
