I thought I found a dead snake, and there are only two kinds of snake in Denmark, so I put it in my pocket at the beginning of a 10 kilometer walk because I wanted to identify it later.
However, I kept forgetting it was in my pocket, putting my hand in there, and terrifying myself.
When I got home I found out this is Anguis fragilis, a legless lizard that is sometimes called a slowworm.
In any case, learning that seems worth the feeling of a surprise dead snake on my fingertips.
Oh cool! For next time, one quick way to tell if something is a snake or a legless lizard is to check for ears. Legless lizards have little ear holes on the sides of their heads, and snakes don’t. Cool find!
