Pagoda flower is an evergreen shrub that can grow up to 6 feet tall, and produce a terminal paniculate inflorescence full of crimson flowers. The shape of the inflorescence of this species is the inspiration for the common name of the pagoda flower, and is also the reason it is widely cultivated around the world. Aside from its ornamental use, pagoda flower has a history of medicinal use in its native range where it is commonly used to make a tea to induce vomiting.
