Thanks to our Kickstarter supporters we were able to purchase a FLIR Thermal Camera to inspect the hives during the cold winter months. We have already identified and corrected issues with two of the hives. Each of the hives (as seen above) were “clustering” in the top box, which is an issue because the bee clusters move up as they consume their honey stores over the winter. If they start the winter in the top box, once that food is gone and it is too cold to “break cluster” and move down, they will starve to death even though there is a full box of honey right below them. So thank you Kickstarter supporters, you may have already saved about 100,000 honey bees :)
