Vaunt in the Hoh Rain Forest of Olympic National Park. 

We woke up to what was my first and probably only sunny day on the olympic peninsula, which was just about the most exciting thing I have ever experienced.  They do not call it a rain forest for nothing, which is to say normally when I am there I spend the majority of my time floating in my sleeping bag, swimming in the tent, or just downright wet and miserable.

Don’t get me wrong aside from all the bullshit twilight paraphernalia that litters the windows of the towns of the peninsula, and intense rain trying to force you into more expensive less tent like structures, olympic national park is one of the most beautiful places I have been.  That said the weather is extremely trying.

So back to our sunny day.  I went and shot at Ruby beach in the morning and got some great photos for the landscape book I will be publishing when I get home, while nearly having my equipment washed away.  After that we decided we’d make the trip up to the rain forest and try to get a good shot of mount olympia (couldn’t get it)

En route we were nailed by pea sized hail for about half an hour.  It was pretty awesome watching it accumulate like tiny white marbles on the ground.  You can see it in this photo but it just looks like snow.

Somewhere in there Amy found an elk that truly hated her, and I used her as bate to get some fantastic images of it.  Probably not the best thing to do with your girlfriend, but we all must make certain sacrifices to create good art…right?

Then some more driving up to rialto beach for sunset climbing over countless drenched fallen tree’s, and more.  To hard to really explain how crazy the beaches of the pacific coast are.  You’ll just have to make the trip one day and see for yourself, so you can feel as small as I do when I watch those waves crash over thousands of years of growth.
