Sneaking back on here just to make my annual round up post because I love having them as something to look back on.
I haven’t been on Tumblr much this year because it has been the most AMAZING YEAR OF MY LIFE. I feel so so so blessed to have had such a fruitful and exciting year.
My debut novel published in July 2019, and along with that came such exciting opportunities - so most of these photos are just of me with my book
Here’s my top 10 things of 2019 - in order of what I thought looked good in Tumblr preview (top left to bottom right)
1- I got to meet HANK GREEN! He was so so so lovely, and I got to gush to him about how thankful I am to DFTBA Records for selling my designs.
2- There was a gigantic poster of MY BOOK COVER at London Book Fair, one of the biggest publishing trade fairs. I got to go and see it and just bask in its magnificence.
3- I got to visit the printers to watch my book being actually printed. It was such a cool experience, that I won’t ever forget. There’s nothing like being in a warehouse full of conveyor belts carrying your book. BONKERS.
4- MY BOOK WAS NOMINATED FOR A FREAKING CARNEGIE MEDAL. AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
5- I got to go and listen to the audiobook of my book being recorded and even record the author’s note myself. It was such a bizarre experience listening to these actors read MY words. Also freaky how much they brought the characters to life.
6- Let’s be honest, the highlight of my life so far - My debut novel, All The Things We Never Said, published on July 11th 2019. It’s been my dream since I was a kid to publish a novel and I’m so blessed to have been able to do that. This came with a lot of amazing opportunities that I couldn’t list here because silly Tumblr photo limit - I got to travel up and down the country doing events, talking to people who said nice things about me and the book. I got to SIGN BOOKS like a PROFESSIONAL AUTHOR. I got to go on radio a bunch of times, do exciting events and be on panels with PROPER AUTHORS that I’m a fan of myself. It’s been just the most mind-blowing experience.
7- I got to plan and throw a super fun book launch party - including halal gummy bears, shreddies and mocktails tailored to each of my characters
8- I AM A COVER GIRL??? I got to take part in a most amazing feature with Gal-Dem magazine, and was actually on their back cover for their latest issue. Literal WHAT IS AIR moment.
9- A few years back I completed my MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa Uni, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. 2 years later, my book got put on to the new students reading list, and I legit cried. It’s such an honour (that they’re forcing these people to read my book)
10- I’ve been to almost every Young Adult Literature Convention as a lover of YA Literature, and one of my dreams has been to be on a panel at YALC. I got to do that this year! Not only was I on a panel, but I got to do a signing, and THERE WAS A QUEUE. a freaking QUEUE of people who wanted me to sign their book. LITERALLY WHAT IS MY LIFE NOW/?????!?!
I just honestly can’t gush about this year enough. I’m sad to say debut year is over, but it’s also just the start of my writing career. Onwards and upwards!
