Recently I’ve heard a few artists concerned that they don’t have their own style, and I have some thoughts on that. I have a very distinctive style, but I couldn’t recognize my own personal style for a very long time. It’s a combination of the fact that learning artists tend to have a “weaker” style (one way to define style is “how you specifically draw things unrealistically”, therefore that will get lost when a learning artist does lots of things unrealistically), and that it is harder to see your own style than it is to see someone else’s style. You are too close to your style and it takes a long time and a lot of work to understand it.

This means that you probably do have a style. It’s just hard to see. I remember years of frustration and now it all seems obvious. Style is very annoying like that I’m afraid, but you probably do have a style even if you can’t see it.
