“We need to do something. You know, to mark the end of the summer, the end of high school,” Allison says.

“A transitory rite,” Stiles says, mouthing at the string on his hoodie. He’s being doing summer reading, twisting new terms into his vocabulary.  

“Yeah, exactly,” Allison says, rolling over on her side to stare up at them. “Road trip?”

“Road trip,” Stiles agrees, grinning off into the distance.

“Well, where to, gang?” Scott asks, leaning back and knitting his hands behind his head, and destinations and distances start spilling from Allison and Stiles’ mouths, lines on a map that doesn’t exist yet.
