Harper Hendrix | 16 | Bi-curious | Runner 4 | FC: Isabelle Fuhrman | OPEN
Before the Outbreak:
The Hendrix family had deep pockets and powerful connections because of their fame. As the daughter of two famous movie stars, Harper grew up with everything handed to her on a silver platter. Not only that, but she was also her parents’ only child, which meant she was extremely spoiled – and lonely. On the outside, maybe people believed her to be a bit of a snob. In truth, she wasn’t at all. Harper was a soft-spoken and shy girl; not at all loud and outgoing like her parents. She didn’t like to let anyone in, which led people to think that she thought she was above others. However, that was far from the truth. With the threat of fake friends using her to get to her parents, Harper didn’t make new friends and in general, had no real ones. In her neighborhood of mansions and wealth, Harper was doubtful if anyone there was as much of a deep thinker as she was. In a way, Harper was born in the wrong era. She would have fit in much better in the time of ancient Greek philosophers. Her maturity was beyond her young years. Often, her parents joked that she was an old, wise man, stuck in a teenager’s body. And she really was intelligent, though intelligence in anything that didn’t have to do with the Hollywood business went unnoticed by her parents. Behind her quiet and modest exterior, there was a mind bursting with clever ideas and morals. Her thoughtfulness put her into her own world at times, not that she minded. She always felt like she didn’t belong where she was in society, while many others would’ve killed to be in her spot. However, Harper just didn’t fit in. She wasn’t materialistic, despite constantly being showered with gifts from her parents. Harper didn’t see them as presents, really. She saw them as apologies for being away from her so long. Often, she was in the care of the help around the house, though Harper usually kept to herself. She was independent, definitely. But strong? Pressure would test her limits and see just how far she can go, because it doesn’t matter if she can be alone from time to time – it’s her mind that must survive the stress.
After the Outbreak:
The night was silent and rather haunting after Harper sent the maids home. She didn’t feel like being watched over and wanted muteness, as she usually found the quiet very peaceful. It gave her room to think without people breathing down her neck or shattering her serenity. But this time, Harper felt like something was wrong. There were no cars on the street – but she only thought it was because everyone went to the premiere that her parents were the main event at. She actually felt a strong, overwhelming sense of fear envelop her and finally, being lonely all her life caught up with her. The smallest creaks and breezes began to terrify her, even if she made those noises herself. She hated feeling like something was very wrong, but she knew deep inside, that something definitely wasn’t right tonight. She just didn’t have any idea why. As she was just about to go to sleep, the sounds of a helicopter above her house startled her awake, making her feel even more panicked than before – she almost hit her parents, who came running in, disheveled and still in their formal clothing. Immediately, she began to pack and together, the family raced up to the helicopter – a perk for being rich and famous. As they ascended into the air, Harper’s fears were slowly escalating until her mother told her to sleep, which she did. When she woke up, Harper found herself in Abel’s hospital, recovering from a broken arm. Apparently, the helicopter malfunctioned and went down, instantly killing the pilot and her father. Her mother suffered from head trauma because she had shielded Harper from debris, but still managed to drag them out. Conveniently, a Runner heard the crash and helped them to safety, but when they arrived in Abel, Harper’s mother died from a seizure, due to a blood clot in her brain. Harper found herself even more terrified than before, trembling and tense the whole time she was at Abel. The only thing that gives her comfort is her mother’s locket, which she wears every day. She isn’t sure why she was assigned as a Runner, though she is quick and small. Her smarts would help the other Runners and herself as well – but how can she manage to run, when she’s practically petrified of her own shadow?
Relationships:
Leah Watson is her Comms Coordinator. Harper can barely notice that Leah is so worried about her when she’s running like a crazy person in the field and jumping at every noise.
As a strong bond with Lily Meehan that she feels like a sister. They were trapped together for twenty-four hours on a misson gone wrong and Lily protected the both of them.
Chase Cosco has made it very clear that she thinks Harper has no place in Abel and refuses to work with her.
