Remembering 51 years since the Avim School Bus Massacre.
On May 22, 1970, terrorists associated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine fired two RPGs at a school bus on the road from the Avivim agricultural community located close to the Israeli-Lebanese border. The attack killed three adults, nine children and wounded 25 other passengers, mainly children, on the bus.
Early in the morning the bus set out from Avivim to take the children to two local elementary schools. The terrorists who infiltrated Israel from the Lebanese side scouted out the location earlier with the intention of attacking the defenseless children. After the driver was hit the bus tumbled off the road into an embankment at which point the vile terrorists proceeded to spray the bus with bullets. The evil perpetrators were never apprehended.
